Anyone have any idea what sort of aftermarket kit I should buy to put keyless entry on my Delica l400? I think it has it, but the fob never made it over. It certainly has power locks.

I should be able to set the computer in program mode, if anyone has a technique for the montero or old delica i would give it a shot...

Not certain about the programming part.

I have yet to see an L400 base/exceed/super exceed/royal exceed with non-power door locks.

I think all of them have power door locks, while the added option is central locking and rear tailgate open/close.

I had the absolute bare bones base model and it had power door locks.

I was in the same boat (central locking but no key fob for keyless entry and if there was a controller it was very well hidden...) and recently tackled it.

In the end I tracked down a Viper keyless entry kit at a decent price and did the install in 1-2hrs. The most time-consuming bit was sorting out the wiring in the van but it was a very simple installation with only five connections to worry about (12-volt constant, 2x ground, door lock and door unlock) for the basic install.

I've found extensize wiring diagrams for the L400 (380pages worth) and in my case the colour coding did match nicely so there was no guess-work involved. Next weekend I'll hook up some of the optionals (horn and lights) but it's a cheap and simple job.

Next project...installing a set of plasma-dials that the little lady got for me from the UK.

So there is no programable keychain fob that would work with the frequency of the original wireless fob?

What about a remote starter kit? I think that has dook locking capabilities as well as the starter. But it wouldn't work with the original wireless frequency but rather like the alarm install.

Not sure if you can find a replacement fob to work with the existing system but there seems to be one major complication. Everything I read indicated that for security reasons you need a working original fob in hand to be able to add any new ones to the system and that assumes that you also have a working controller onboard the van somewhere (not real sure if there is one in my case).

In the end, its pretty inexpensive ($50-80) and a simple bit of wiring just to get a new kit with fresh remotes. Free advice and worth every penny...

Do you know for a fact that this vehicle originally had the keyless entry? Although they all have power locks, not all of them ever had keyless entry. (in fact I don't even know if it was an option on the first L400s, though I do know later L400s definitely had it available.)

If you DID have keyless entry, there are a couple options, 1) you could spend a lot of time working with an exporter/importer trying to source a mitsubishi fob that will work... or 2) you could simply add a new system, princess auto sells simple remote control units for this sort of thing for under $30... this is probably the best bet, and it has the added advantage of working regardless of whether the vehicle ever had keyless entry in the first place or not.

My original keyless remote would only work if I was standing right next to the lock. I had a new one put in.

Yes, I guess adding a new controller is the sensible thing to do. It would be more elegant to use the mitsu controller, if it exists, but hey, life goes on...

Well, I didn't just get a new remote, I put a new system in, it starts the van, too. I had it done at "Performance Car Stereo" in North Van (on Pemberton Avenue). Good guys.

Falco.

I have that, too, Wobby. I think I can get it to do the laundry as well but at the moment I am still not satisfied with how it folds the clothes...
