That whine would only happen to me on really cold days. I would just pull over, put it in reverse and back up a few meters with the wheel straight to 'reset/unlock' the hubs. Seems like the intense cold for some reason would partially engage one of them. Not sure about the shake...

Check your alternator belt too, that was causing mine to squeek and chirp. I tigtened that up a bit and that worked.

I actually removed both bolts on the right, and that allows the roller arm on the left to be moved quite easily into position so that you can get both arms into the tracks attached to the window.
