Re: Just bought my holy grail: 1997 Pajero Evolution

Have been enjoying this Paj immensely! The engine/trans is unlike any paj I've had before, and I've had most of the variants. So strange for an automatic transmission to bang through the shifts and take it to redline in every gear. It also downshifts when you crest a hill and let off the throttle. S...

Thanks a lot! You've been the key to making this happen. Wouldn't trust this process to anyone else!

Re: Just bought my holy grail: 1997 Pajero Evolution

Thanks. I've done my research - not my first 6G series engine. And I've had a 4G63 Evo as well, so I'm well aware of the "price you pay for performance". Thankfully premium fuel is much less than it used to be, as long as that lasts... As far as mechanics, my feeling is if you are hiring a...

Re: Just bought my holy grail: 1997 Pajero Evolution

I got a pile of pics today, and so far its good news. Everything is looking as it should. A few small fixes but nothing major. Overall, build number 581 looks to have been a good choice!

Re: Just bought my holy grail: 1997 Pajero Evolution

Theres only a few pics from the auction site. When do you get the inspection pics Phil? And I hope I get a chance to drive it shortly after its arrival. (This Mitsu gives you 'wings'!) Oh don't worry. You are on the short list. ;) I'm hoping to have pics anytime now. It has to go from Hiroshima to ...

Just bought my holy grail: 1997 Pajero Evolution

Not sure how many are in Canada at this point, although I think the number may be around five or so? In any event, another is coming. I've just bought a 1997, number 581 of 2500 in Hiroshima. I should have it in a month or two. 140k kms, grade 4, silver, and I am so excited! I'll post up some pics w...

Re: New purchase..91 Pajero

Great to hear the update Bill! I had a 2.6 in my 88 Raider. Loved it, but... I still have nightmares about Mikuni vaccum lines, and I'm pretty sure I can still smell coolant... And I sold mine in 99. LOL.

But someone will say it, so it may as well be me: PICS OR IT DIDN'T HAPPEN. LOL.

Re: 90 Pajero with a broken rocker shaft

I had the same thing happen to my Pajero while climbing a steepish hill on the #1 in BC. Overspeeding the engine could've been a factor as I didn't have a working tach at the time. I was trying to make good time as mine maxes out at about 110km on the highway, I'm guessing it's extremely low geared...

Re: '91 Paj CV Axles

Hi guys, I am looking at the same problem and would like to know if the NA Montero cv axles worked and how big a job was the re/re? Thanks in advance... Hey Bill, All I can quote you is the numbers, which say it's a match as long as you buy for the right truck (as was posted above, add a year on to...

Re: 1991 Pajero CV Axles

Punkrawker: No worries… I think that's why they invented emoticons :? Sorry I didn't see this earlier, I could've corroborated your findings... v6 3000 shares almost everything with the small diesel and the v6 3500 shares with the bigger 2800 diesel. Except the engine. LOL. Just bear in mind that w...

Re: '91 Paj CV Axles

Went here: (through some great advice!) http://www.partsbase.org/mitsubishi/ And it does indeed look like the Gas and Diesel versions share the same axle part numbers. BP Excellent info gathering and even more excellent that you shared. As a rule, the 4d56 platform shared with the 3.0 v6 and the 4m...

Re: Runaway engine and looking for advice

I think your questions have been mostly answered. I'll reiterate, having had both... don't swap in the 4D55 or 56. Beyond the swap issues due to different transmissions, you will be seriously down on power and torque. My 4D56 (intercooled) Pajero SWB slowly worked its way up hills, but I can't imagi...

Re: Opinions on 3500 GDI?

One final question - on the jdmconnection auction site, 4M41 is not one of the 'model types'. Instead, they list models such as TA-V65W (http://auctions.jdmconnection.ca/auctions/?p=project/lot&id=333854028&s).Where would I go to see, for example, if a TA-V65W is a 3.2 Di-D or a 3.5 GDI? Th...

Re: Opinions on 3500 GDI?

As always, I'm late to the party. Growler, it's great to hear actual experience about the GDI beyond just what you "hear" on the net. Your explanation makes sense too. My impression of JDM imports (backed up by owning several of them) is that the type of driving they generally get is the o...

Re: New purchase..91 Pajero

Thanks for the reply Phil, I am not having any problem with the trans shift selector and will check the brake lines to see if there is any stress on them, the right side cv boot(inner) is torn, don't know if the lift or just general use caused the tear... Love these rigs, got it at a price I could ...
