Hey Mitch,
There was an article this summer in the TC talking about a society starting up sometime. I understand they're still dealing with the rules for joing etc. and will be making an announcement. They're not taking members yet until they've got it all sorted.

leaky fuel pumps
This is what happened in OZ a few years back. I started getting heads-ups on it from the Co-op gas stations in smalltown Saskatchewan warning farmers with their equipment. What about fuel additives? What's the good stuff in it that so-called replaces sulphur anyways?

filters etc.
Your prices for filters are way out of whack for me. Cross-reference them over to a common Purolator (never Fram) and save $$. Should be about ~$6 and go with 20L pails of 15w40 Delo-400 from Chevron warehouses/wholesale ($70). Do frequent changes (5000km) and change your inexpensive filter each tim...

B.C. Ferries trip
Remember in "Austin Powers" the first movie where Dr. Evil has a factory that makes little models of toy factories. Maybe B.C. Ferries got their contractor model-maker from a Japanese firm, hence the Delica.

catalytic converters
On catalytic converters, diesels do have 'em but yes, they're different. in 2007 all road diesels will have to have and off road diesels have to comply by 2010. This is problematic for some engine manufacturers requiring a different engine oil since normal oil of today will impact the converter and ...

My answer would be, "yes" until the auto industry lobbyist put the kaibosh on us import-junkies like what happened in OZ.
Has anyone seen the movie "Who Killed the Electric Car"? Parallels to biodiesel could be around the corner here perhaps.

radio bandwith expanders
I can't find the thread that was discussing briefly about the lame bandwidth on JP radios compared to domestic airwaves here. Haven't sourced it yet but my contact in JP told me about "band-expanders" available to slide in the existing radio and usually cassette stereo systems in most impo...

Apparently, sending a deposit to these auction houses is frowned upon by domestic banks as one guy (Mike) in Victoria could tell you. Luckily I'm dealing with two Canadian guys currently living in Japan and so far, no probs.

timing belt
On the timing belt, I have one in stock to do some year as mine was done in JP before I bought it (110,000 km) but I had a friend do his at my place while I assisted him if he needed it. He didn't use a manual but had no problems. Pretty straight forward job similar to say a 22RE job except it's a c...

domestic parts
I contacted the MM dealer in Nanaimo looking for a timing belt, telling them exactly what I wanted to do and what vehicle it was for. I expected a "get lost" like I got from Toyota here in Victoria from my first JAP import, but the fellow in Naniamo was completely understanding and got bac...

auto vs. standard
More important than shifting with which hand, you should consider the durability of the two transmission types. I've been reading the OZ site and have corresponded with friends in Japan and they definitely said there have been some issues with the 5-speed. The problem is in the bearings slopping out...

Just a quick response without seeing mine, have you thought about the "one-size-fits-all" style that doesn't have threads and you just wank them in? Short of that, obviously it'll be a standard metric thread.

Inspections
You do NOT need federal inspection as long as the vehicle is 15 years to the month of manufacturer date and when it arrives at the port of entry. If under this, even by a few days, vehicle is impounded and either destroyed or you pay for it to be sent back. Feds only get involved in the Food Inspect...
