delicaMark, from what I understand most of our Deli's are already empty by the time they get here. I suppose you could double check by putting the pressure gauge on there (I think it's like a bicycle valve), and if it has no pressure then it has no (or negligible amounts of) refrigerant.

JMK - They also evacuate the system (which is required by law, according to CanTire's small print), and they do a pressure test. I was reading elsewhere on the forum that it will take more than the kit's 2 cans to fill the system. If I recall correctly, it's something like 1 can of leakstop (or dye ...
