Re: Good procedure for pulling the L300 engine?
true, but if you factor in the ground clearance, dropping the subframe with the engine I believe probably does not require raising the front of the vehicle to extremes - the case of the bug, that sump is pretty close to the ground which is why bugs need that life -not familar with the Russek manual?...

Re: Good procedure for pulling the L300 engine?
when i rebuilt the one in the L300, the shop dropped the engine/tranny/tcase out the bottom, set it on a cart and removed the tranny and accessories at that time. clean and easier than through the cab. always think of how it was assembled and work backwards... a lift is handy for this. Now this mak...

Or pull the head (still hard to tell if it a bad ring unless there is damage).
I have not looked to closely but I suspect it is easier to go out the bottom with a car hoist.
Oh, and leak down absolutely!

Re: Good procedure for pulling the L300 engine?
I agree, sometimes it all comes down to a few extra inches - I think I would make plywood forms that rest against various interiors panels to avoid smashing something inadvertently - still cannot believe there is not a complete procedure on this (l300 engine pull) site for this with good pics -

Re: Good procedure for pulling the L300 engine?
Should I pull engine, (if I make this purchase) I think I will create a sticky for this site with pics as I am certain the lifting/rotating of the engine out of the cab is a little tricky -thanks!

Re: Good procedure for pulling the L300 engine?
Now that's helpful thanks - lots of padding I am sure to avoid fluid spills etc and I am sure chain must be short -wonder how fast this could be done by someone who has done this a few times -

Re: Possible to access piston via the sump?
Hmmm . . . some tractor designs will allow you to pull this way but for know, it looks like pulling the sump/head, removing connecting rod end caps and pushing piston out and if I went this far, it would be foolish to not replace all 4 ring sets and perhaps a valve job based upon inspection. Anyone ...

Re: Possible to access piston via the sump?
Ah, not true -this method is/was extremely common many years ago - drop sump, removing connecting rod bolts (piston that you are working on should have crank oriented in down position) push piston up and swing connecting rod for clearance and remove) This method does not work for all vehicles due to...
