Re: Pajero batteries keep dying

Ditto what Luna-Sea says. Same thing...bought new batteries and they died. Had the alternator rebuilt...was about 300 which included taking it out, rebuilt and put back in.

Re: Burning coolant and bit of oil : Head?

@ Rattlenbang - I meant no disrespect to Japanese people...purely using a short form and I'm not the most PC person in the world. You get more carbon build up doing the short hops as mentioned which takes us back to the Intake Manifold getting coked up. Kills mileage as well. So again worth the clea...

Re: Burning coolant and bit of oil : Head?

Knock on wood the Surf 3.0 is running pretty nice. Slowing doing some cleaning/flushing. Been doing LOT'S of reading on these Surfs and have learned a few issues that apply to all imports. The biggest is not knowing how they've been treated by the time they get here particularly the cooling systems....

Re: ECU problems??? cold start problems TURBO ISSUE?

I 'had' very similar sounding issues with cold starts and would agree with Big-Bird. I will add some findings relative to what I was experiencing. NOTE: The turbo while maybe requiring a rebuild/new bearings or whatever by the sounds of it - should not be affecting your start-up. If this is a 2.5 th...

Re: Burning coolant and bit of oil : Head?

You're correct... and I'm guessing who ever had it before me ran it hard. The rad wasn't in great shape (required a couple full flushes) and the thermostat needed changing. I should have walked away then. I never over heated this thing and if I did I was quick to back off the fuel. Use to be adamant...

Re: Burning coolant and bit of oil : Head?

@ Rattle...thanks for the advice on the head. If I did this I'd get the gaskets from Combs. Had it at CVI last summer and the timing belt along with tensionsers were good. And I had given him strict instructions that if he needed to change it to do so. I've rarely seen a mechanic turn down work so I...

Re: Burning coolant and bit of oil : Head?

Hey Big-Bird, I called Combs so that I could get a handle on what I'd basically be dealing with. His take was since the labor is roughly the same you might as well replace the head which would save having to do it again if the head was semi compromised. He noted he's had to pull trucks apart for a s...

Re: 93 LWB 2.8 - Advice on buying

I've decided not to go with the pajero and pick up a toyota surf 3.0 instead. Good service history, clean, low kms... As for my paj...I'd rather sell it whole vs slowly stripping it down. In the end for someone that's got the know how it's not a bad fixer-upper. Lord knows I've made sure just about ...

Re: Burning coolant and bit of oil : Head?

Ok...just called Graham at Combs. If just the gaskets it would be around 1200 or so tax in. With a new head which he advised take on another thousand.

The truck is done.

Re: Burning coolant and bit of oil : Head?

Thanks for the straight talk... Either way it sounds like this truck is going to be sold as a parts truck. I'd simply rather put the cash towards a different vehicle. Shame...was hoping to get at least another year out of it.

Ok thanks for everyone's input.

Looks like I'm going to have to spend cash to figure out the problem - !@#$

Re: Burning coolant and bit of oil : Head?

Checked my oil...pretty sure I didn't see any water or it to be more 'fluidy'.

Did see any oil in the rad or anywhere else.

It's mostly burning coolant. Turbo...really? That would do it to the coolant like that?

93 LWB 2.8 - Advice on buying

Given my present paj might be dead'ish and not worth fixing if it's the head I've come across another paj. A 93 LWB 2.8 which seems reasonably decent. Questions...though. Is the 93 2.8 when they changed the Injector Pump...front seal issues? Or was that even later? Rear passenger door 'outside' hand...

Burning coolant and bit of oil : Head?

This thing is eating coolant and a bit of oil. :( No oil in the engine bay that I can see...non on the ground. But like I mentioned the oil was a bit low after adding some and going for a drive so it must be burning a bit of it. Coolant on the other hand is blowing out the exhaust...white'ish...has ...
