Re: Backwoods Camping Southern Vancouver Island

the trees will survive.

I'm more worried about walking around in the dark and finding one of those carvings looking right at you. darkness can play many games with a person.

You have stock 4.63 Axle Ratios? I am 4.88 stock.
thats what it says under my hood, the strada is slightly different from the delica and pajero.

Re: L300 standard transmission

I have a L300 std tranny. Would I get one again... no Not because of worry but because of the speed difference on the road. The ratio isn't the same and as such you will be crawling on the highway. I get amazing fuel mileage in the city. If I was never to drive it on the highway it wouldn't be a pr...

Re: L300 standard transmission

I have a strada (truck version of delica). it has pretty much the exact same driveline as the delica. I also have the standard transmission, V5M21. also the km145 fits. the following is for V5M21 or km145, can't recall, maybe both. what I know about this transmission is that it was originally 4 gear...

Re: Turbo tune down?

if that's the case, could you not get a variable valve (controlled from in the cabin) to vary the pressure from the turbo going to the injection pump while you're on the highway to find that sweet spot? or am I taking this design too far too quick? my electrical isn't too good, but i think a potenti...

Re: Heat stops smoking?

my truck does something along the same lines, smoke like a beast (greyish) only on start up but for about 5 minutes if its cold enough then low on power, high on fuel consumption when warm. If I plug it in, there could be almost no smoke. take note, I do have blow-by, I got the valve stem seals fixe...

Re: . . . 'it sounds like KA-CHUNK' question

drive shaft u-joints have slop in them? they shift everytime you change their rotational direction.
have the van off and in park/gear, get under there and grab the shaft, rotate it and check for excessive slop.

Re: I'm stumped

it is not a little puff of blue in the morning. it is constant for 5 mins or so with a miss in the engine, then it will smooth out and act normal. I have nothing while driving that i can see. i'm not worrying about the half moon seal, it's fixed now anyhow. the oil weight makes no difference for thi...

Re: I'm stumped

looking back at my last question I don't even know why I asked that, I knew that already.... unfortunately, it's looking like the oil rings on my engine have/are going bad... or maybe the valve stem diameter is worn (new seals would still allow oil to pass), or the shop didn't lubrcate the valve sea...

Re: I'm stumped

I have to tell the story 'how a combustion engine works' to answer your question in details. I hope this brief excerpt from Wiki helps: 'Internal combustion inevitably involves a small but continual amount of blow-by, which occurs when some of the gases from the combustion leak past the piston ring...

Re: I'm stumped

Strada-caster: The best way to check 'the rings' theory is to measure the gas flow coming from the vent hose The pressure test is useless when it comes to the issue like this; there is enough liquid in the pistons to seal the gaps. Ideally you need a rotameter and the numbers to compare the readind...

Re: I'm stumped

no EGR on the strada, so thats gone. I've never checked the exhaust bolts though... loss of power was pretty much from the valves being out of whack, adjustment fixed that. My main concern is the oil burning, where is it comming from? why is it happening? how detrimental is it to my engine?.... I ju...

Re: I'm stumped

well I got my valve seals done, seems like they had a minor effect on the oil burning but it didn't fix it.

I guess i'm at the turbo leaking internally or the rings.
what is the best way to test these two theories?
thanks

Re: Should there be play in front driveshafts?

if your clunk only happens when you are turning, going up or down a bump, I'll bet its the hardstop contact for the steering. On my strada (L300 truck) there use to be plastic cups over the head of a bolt coming out of the idler arm. this bolt/plastic would contact the lower control arm when wheels ...
