Working out the kinks in my 96 l400 chamonix
The adhesive heat pads work very well. I have a block heater but my friend running a toy surf had one on his oil pan, and one on his batteries. Worked nice.

That aluminum can be found from most metal suppliers. In the link you provided it says the bought it bulk and cut to suit. For the connectors Google the crap out of the web and call around. Start at where you source the aluminum, asking for ideas.

Sounds like your injectors. When I was messing with mine and put the wrong injectors in that happened. I think it's releasing fuel into the motor at the wrong time. Gets blown out the back unburnt. Similar to when starting cold with bad glow plugs.

New glow plugs, now it starts worse!
Weird. In the future only do one thing at a time. Fix, drive , repeat.

L400, Long wheel base or Short wheel base?
The Lwb would be nice for sleeping in. My first Van was the l300 which has more room than the swb l400. Simply due to the design. I didn't realize this till after. I've gotten used to the swb now but miss the packing room I used to have. It's harder to find the Lwb.

Found out my van has auto locks, need a fob. Any ideas??!!
I looked into this with mine. The controller is an issue to reset or match to fobs. The Aussie site goes into it in detail. That's why I had a auto start out in. In my case the fob died.

Putting a blade on something other than a truck is asking for issues. Front mount points are poor.

And yes you can use 4H or AWD at highway speeds.
