FYI:
i couldn't believe it.
i went to speedy A$$ yesterday for a small star chip in my windshield.
the guy said there was a charge of $90+tax!
i HAVE glass coverage, and the guy still insisted.
i replied with "that i will take my business elsewhere..." and moved on.
leaches...

action glass later told me that the chip i had couldn't be repaired, due to its' high location. :-(

guess i'll be looking for another windshield by the spring. :-(

Al,

Forgive me I'm missing something here, but wouldn't 100 bucks be alot cheaper than a 300 deductible? or was this over & above the deductible?

Al

Speedy for the most part are good guys.

$100 for chip repair is normal

Your windshield deductible for insurance $300+ does not cover chips. Just the whole windshield.

You'll be 'taking your business elsewhere' forever since no one does windshield repair for free.

Speedy Auto is not ripping you off. Insurance doesn't pay them to fix windshield chips. Only full windshield replacements.

And you don't have to search for a new windshield. The auto glass repair co. of your choosing will do that for you.

My recommendation is Speedy Autoglass on imperial rd. in burnaby as they did my L300 twice although by your title you may not even consider them.

Hopefully you haven't disuaded anyone from Speedy Auto by your title of this thread

I hope your kidding! My "normal" has always been about $35, and I do NOT have glass insurance. Some companies advertise that chip filling is FREE with glass insurance!

I mean c'mon, it takes them less than 10 mins, and maybe up to 1 ml of their magic goop.

You're in AB. We're in BC. Cost difference obviously.

It ranges here in the lower mainland between 50-110 depending on where you go. Also it depends on the quality of the repair. I've had crap chip repair at 60 and great at 100.

I should be in the glass business in BC then! (you could make over $600 an hour!)

the last chip I had in my windshield was repaired by a friend at a local glass shop.. took 20 mins and cost $20.. I'd have to agree that $100 seems a little steep.

When I went to Speedy in North Van 3 years ago they charged me $45. A year ago they were asking $90 and Apple Auto Glass was $20 cheaper. 100% price increase for the same service does not make any sense for me.

I'd rather pay them $10 which is what I think it should be. But I'm not a glass tech. I don't know if they retool their equipment or if resin cost went up.

All I know is I've been taking and referring everyone I know to them since they were around a long time ago. Everyone I've referred them to says good things about them, mainly that they are very fast and are good a getting you in and out the door even if you don't have an appointment.

I've had crap chip repair done before so obviously there are different resins and tools to do the job. That's probably why costs vary.

Just because they do good work, are fast and charge $90 doesn't mean they are assholes. It's a small individual franchise so it's not a big co. Dealing with them
is good providing you (the customer) are not the asshole.

I beg to differ as well. We have guys here that charge $25.00 to do a chip repair. Any more after the first one are $15.00 a piece. Last time I looked at my driver's license, I live in B.C.
