Hi guys,

First, I have to apologize for my English. I am Japanese!!

My name is Taka Kikuchi and I am the owner of www.Big6Imports.com in Vancouver.
My worker in Japan and I have attended many auction houses in Japan so we know some inside stories of auction houses (Some are good and some are bad).

I cannot tell you every thing but let me say few things about Auction Sheets.

Auction Sheets are just a guidance.... and sometimes they are not reliable.

And also it is Very Easy to make a fake copy of auction sheets because they give out the nonwritten auction sheets when a dealer in japan becomes a member of the auctions.

I can tell the difference..... but I don't think you readers cant since you do not know Japanese and other way to investigate.....

Auction houses provide auction sheets so that the buyers can spot damages and problems easily. (scratches, dents, paint condition, rusts, repaired item, electronic issues, modified items, and etc...).

So who fill the auction sheets?

The answer is... Auction House Inspectors and the Sellers of the vehicles.

First, the sellers will write down all the good things about his/her vehicles and other important things that every buyer should know such as negative information. (However, sometimes they do not tell everything.)

Last, the auction house inspectors will inspect everything but they do not do Test Driving because each inspector have to inspect hundreds of vehicles each day and they are not the one who moves the vehicles within the auction houses. When the workers who move around the vehicles within the auction houses find some issues when they are moving the vehicles, then they will report the problem. However, they only drive within the auction houses (short distance) and drive slow (less than 20km/h).

The buyers are allow to turn on the engine and check everything except moving the vehicles (rules by the auction houses).

What every JDM buyer in Canada should do is find a importer that you can trust (TRUST IS EVERYTHING!!) . And at the same time, you should also know your importer's supplier in Japan. You should do some research if you can... Best way to buy a right JDM vehicle is to buy one in Canada. Go have a test drive so that you know 100% about the car. Also, make sure the car is registered or all the documents are available. Go to ICBC insurance to find out what document you need to register JDM cars.

When I buy vehicles for my clients and for myself, I provide our own onsite inspections, extra pictures, availability of DOTs and our honest opinions on the vehicles. I do not really like to trust the 3rd company to inspect the cars that Im interested because 1) Cost more money, 2) I do not want any mistakes because I am spending few thousands just for the shipping to Canada.

If every auction sheets are very reliable, there is no point for every dealer in Japan to attend the auctions and do their onsite inspections because we can bid online. They are attending auctions (including us!!) because we know that auction sheets are just a guidance.....

At last, I am not telling everyone to not trust the auction sheets completely. There are MANY GREAT vehicles in Japan. I bought a great Subaru Legacy for 40,000 Yen ($430 CAD) recently and it is in perfect condition. I bought that because I did my own onsite inspection and found the availability of DOTs. EVERYONE... DOTs are important!! especially the windows !!! who wants to extra spend $200 ~ $500 just for ONE WINDOW!!!

Thanks for Reading!!

Cheers Taka, I appreciate your input and I found it quite candid and informative.

Welcome to Delica.ca

There is a section for new member introductions.
member-introductions-20/

It would be great if you can introduce yourself there.

You have some useful information.

There is already a topic on this discussion.

buying-from-auction-or-off-the-lot-in-vancouver-6795.html

Most of what you've brought up has been thoroughly discussed.

It would have been better to add your information to that thread so there would not be repeat topics.

This doesn't belong under new introductions. Even though Taka is introducing himself, he is also introducing a company ~ and he is bringing up a valid topic with relevant information. There are many, many posts on this site that could get boiled down to one great big humongous thread but then we would lose the relevance of the author.

Falco.
