I could have left them plain zinc without any problems, but wanted the plates to look more 'neat & discreet' with the exception of the red one which I wanted to make a statement with! :D

Clear zinc plate also tends to 'dull' after a while - the chrome effect doesn't last that long and although it doesn't rust....it looks a bit faded and matt after a year or so of wet weather. :( Painted finish looks better and lasts longer when it has a rust preventing zinc coat under it....
BCDelica wrote:Also did you change the lower radiator plate? In the last picture there are two arrows showing in the black paint that don't appear in the previous pictures (or on my vans)
If you look at the first two pictures, you'll see that there is a hole in the metal. I think something had been mounted there by the Japanese owner and then removed (air horns maybe??) the area had badly rusted and looked a bit of a mess.

I flattened it out with a hammer before having it plated then when it was plated, I bonded a plastic panel over it to hide the hole. In order to keep things looking neater and more even, I added one to the other side to match. While I was cutting the panels, I thought it would be good to put some sort of logo into it to add more of a subtle 'feature' that only I would know is there! :D I engraved the arrows to 'symbolise' the air direction over the panel into the rad....

Hope that makes sense?? You probably all think I'm mad now!
BCDelica wrote:I noticed too that you didn't replace that rubber leading edge trim on that plate, I have knocked both of mine off already!
Didn't think it was needed and liked the look of it without!

If I was going to put it back on, I was going to fit a new rubber strip, slightly deeper and cut in a series of triangles to look like teeth!

Glad the info on the wheels has helped - I've got some more info about 31's that I found out today while playing with my new L300....but will save that for another time! (got to get the photos sorted for French Boy before he throws a paddy again!  )

Somebody has got new 31" meats on there Delica and said it can be broadcast for all see.

Though it's just a inch or so more in diameter then what most of us run (not including those smallish stock 215/75x15's ) it just looks so right for the Delica's urban safari, rugged mini van looks.

That looks tuff! 8) Very nice! Like those wheels too, anyone know where I could get rims like those? Want to get some black winter rims for my new van. Went through customs yesterday, just waiting to get unpacked from the container and shipped to Calgary! :D :D :D

Speedo change?

Post by asorensen »

I am also running new 31" tires. Has anyone got the differential ratios so I can figure out how fast I am actually going? Or maybe someone on 31s already has this figured out.

If you know anyone who has a GPS, it's an excellent tool for checking the calibration of your speedo.

A good idea to do this regardless of what rubber you run.

Love the pics. It looks like a Yakuza Cruiser

wow, that looks wicked. If anything ever happens to my paint job my van is getting spray bombed black. Especially if the 25 year rule goes through and I can't sell this to get in on the newest of the L300s. I absolutely love those tires, I just wish mitch was around to tell us about them, where are you? Those the $250 rims you got? I love them. What did you modify to get those tucked in there? What kind of lift do you have right now? [/barrage of questions]

SWEET!!!!

Always loved 'rat look' black wheels! :D :D Those 'Surf' rims look great on an L300....and perfectly married to some nice 31's.....

.....good work there! Looks like you've inspired a few others... :D

Glad you managed to find rims to fit in the end. Always a challenge/fun trying to work that one out!

Enjoy the ride..... 8) 8)

I want to see somebody else try universal fender flares before I put em on; with a 1.5" lift and 31s.

http://www.pacerperformance.com/pages/products.asp?id=2

Definitely are not as nice as painted flares (See Mystery Machine!), but with a large amount of time spent on narrow trails I'd be sad when the pricey flares get scratched and smacked.

245/75r16's

Post by jcolvin »

I have fitted 245/75R16s BFG AT. They look fantastic and ride great too. No lift seems to be required.

They are on a set of alloys from a landcruiser, 16' x 8' rims with a 4'' backspacing. The backspacing really moves the stance out towards the side of the truck, I feel you gain a fair bit of stability from the wide stance.

Just did the usual mods of removing the mudflaps/doing some cutting and bashing.

Just a note, I went into north shore off road yesterday, they have black steel 15x8 wheels for $73 and change a piece. I am going to look into those further for when I try to fit my 31s, I don't want to be stuck with $300 worth of rims that won't work, so I'll see what I can figure out.

Is that correct jclovin? 16's? Or are they 15's like everyone else seems to be running? 245/75/16's would be even bigger, and I am curious if they would fit.

Thanks
