When Mods go Wrong, very wrong

Post by Thomas Porter »

Hey all,
Thought this might raise some eyebrows. This post illustrates how ha seemingly innocent mod can get get you into trouble.
Changed the bumper out to a full sizeds job with hitch, then the exhaust was directed right at the shiney, new white bumper. It was instantly black. Sooooo, I got the exhaust system changed out (went in for a turn down tip, got a whole new system $$$$).
Looked great, seemed to work well. Until yesterday.
Check these shots out - ouch!

It was pretty windy when I was out on the highway. The flap likely was flipped up toward the downturned tip. Obviously that exhaust is pretty hot.
Anyone ever seen anything like this before?

I have to admit, if/when I ever change the exhaust, I'm doing a side exit with it....

definitely side exit. Back seems too suck everything against it (good for mileage - getting pushed by the wind). Noticed on the dust roads how much dust works into the back even with the seals good.

Actually, it's bad for mileage, it's not actually pushing you as much as trying to pull you back, it's due to the way the air flows over the vehicle and then circulates back in to the void behind the vehicle... best bet to help with that though would be some form of wind deflector, it would direct some air down the back of the vehicle, probably would have negligible effect on the mileage, but it would definitely keep the back window cleaner.
