keiking?

Post by fozzie »

can anyone tell me if kei king is a reputable dealer. What hasn't been done to his delicas, why are they so much cheaper. Are they uncertified. I've tried to contact him but have not been replied to. I'm looking to get a delica, hopefully soon, and I'm just trying to sort through what is out there. Thanks to everyone for all the great info.

They do nothing to the vehicle. They just ship it.

Go see one of the Canadian registered dealers...

And apparently, if you're not a dealer, they won't sell you a vehicle. According to their website, they only sell to dealers, in American dollars, with speedometers that total in miles.

And yes, given their advertised price, I would suggest they are only passing inspection and slapping plates on them for you. Which is great if you don't want to do all that paperwork yourself AND you do want to do the usually required maintenance yourself.

I would recommend Comox Valley Delica ( http://www.comoxvalleydelica.com ) for buying a delica. He is full of information and gets you what you want. He also does all the necessary DOT upgrades and generalized maintenance plus paperwork.

keiking is a no frills importer, and his price reflects that.
a couple of things to keep in mind.
1) if you are in BC forget it. due to legal quirks of the province of BC he can't sell to anyone but dealers there. (in any other province you can buy from him)
2) his prices are in USD, that's not necessarilly a bad thing, just odd and something to keep in mind.
3) he is no frills, no maintenance or mods will be done to the delica, so make sure you budget for that before buying.

Now we have yet to see any feedback on this site from people who have dealt with him, so we can't say much about his reputation or such. nothing yet to indicate he is a bad importer, but no rave reviews either. If you're not in BC, and you're willing to take a bit more of a risk to save some money, give him a try and let us know what the experience is like.
with speedometers that total in miles
I have no clue where you got that from, this was discussed with him a while ago, he doesn't modify the vehicles, so he's not going to go to all of that expense to change it. (he did have one vehicle on his site at one point if I recall that was in miles, but that wasn't something he did to it, it was just that vehicle happened to come that way)

The USD thing, although odd, does make some sense, his costs are in USD for shipping and such, so he doesn't bother to update his prices for changes in currency conversion.

This was a follow-on shot at the original posts from an importer who was advertising that they "sold to Canadians": I made comment that the prices were USD and distances were in miles. So, the question I beg to be answered is: are they selling to Canadians south of the 49th?

And what's the deal with BC? Why can't they sell to individuals in BC? Why only registered dealers? Does this have ANYTHING to do with Imperial Realm of Pattison? Their website makes no mention (that I could find) that an individual couldn't buy a vehicle from them in the province of BC.

legally selling to individuals in BC requires you to become a registered dealer, this is an expensive process and requires you to take a special course and have a business location in BC. does it have to do with Pattison? not directly, but it wouldn't surprise me!

I was satisfied with the answers keiking gave in his other thread, he is a no frills importer for Canadians, he lists things in USD simply because he isn't bothering to convert it himself, he listed one vehicle (and only one) in miles because that's the instrument cluster it had.

Don't expect him to warranty anything, or do any work on the vehicle, but that by itself is not a bad thing, as long as he is honest about what he hasn't done, and as long as his price reflects it.

What we do is offer an alternative for customers that want to buy Japanese vehicles at "direct" pricing (or lower) with no hassle (sourcing, shipping, customs, etc) and no wait (vehicles are in Canada).

= Prices in currency stated. CAD = Canadian. USD = American. Right now USD isn't too bad.... as long as 9% last week and about 15% this week.

= Vehicles are all in KM's (with photos showing the odometer).

= As for sales in BC. Our business is buying & importing, not retail sales or repairing/upgrading vehicles. We are working with a dealer in the Vancouver area that will be selling the vehicles we import. It seems like Delica owners like to pay full retail price anyways.

= We usually fix most minor or major mechanical problems but anything that needs attention is disclosed to the buyer.
