CCautos

Post by oceaneer77 »

So Our trusty Delica got a citation for belching to much black smoke..
At the time i was away at sea so i had my girl friend take the van to CCautos in coombs to be fixed.
Glen and his team installed a new injection pump and did some other minor fixes that were clean up after Marigold had managed to bungle things.
The van returned to Victoria and about 2 days later was smoking just as bad as before....
As i was away my girl (its officially here car) was in a bit of a state.. with some telephone engineering i had here unplug the EGR and bang the smoke was gone..
So i gave glen a very angry e mail that i am now very sorry for.. He responded quickly and took the van back to coombs where his guys truly outdid them selves. The van now runs great the guys fixed things that i did not even ask for for free, The went way out of there way to make me happy.
I will never let anybody touch the Delca again except CC autos.

Thanks
Glen!!!

this part sounds like my experiences. I wouldn't wish marigold on anyone, not sure how they stay in business.

Really! Vehicles can get a ticket for too much smoke from exhaust?

Good to hear you had everything taken care of.

If your NAPOS is belching a cloud of smoke like Uncle Buck's car, has a windshield with something that looks like an arachnid's masterpiece etched across the whole expanse of it, a tail-light dangling from its socket, tires so smooth you can see the reflection of the wheel-wells on their surface, a muffler that looks like a Roman candle as it clatters along the road beneath your 'chariot', and finally, no front plate... well, probably just get reminded that you should replace that rear view mirror that is hanging from its adjustment cables.

If, however, you are driving a JDM with an air fresher hanging from the rear-view mirror, quite obviously obstructing your view of the road, well...

So did you get a new IP becasue it was leaky or malfunctioning or because it was creating the black smoke? Sounds like the EGR was the issue but you had to pay for a new pump. I am just trying to see why you are happy about this in the end?

THis made me curious about 2 things:

First was same as above, didn't you end up with a new expensive IP, or was it just unclear that the IP was also needed in the first place? For example when I faced mitigating the same problem, GC Systems tested my IP and found that the pressure was 30lbs low.

Second, I'm still thinking I need to blank me EGR with a plate, but is it possible to just disable it instead by unplugging it?

Hi All

The old IP was on its way out so we opted to keep the new one. The failed part was the throttle position sensor that control the EGR valve. When it went the ERG would stay open all the time.

As for the EGR its closed normally. The vacuum line opens it so blanking it is not needed if you want to disable it as removing the line will leave it in the closed position.
A disabled EGR will give slightly higher exhaust gas temps.

The citation for too much exhaust doesn't come with a fine. There are penalties though.

You are given 30 days to have the vehicle tested and the problem fixed. The shop who does the test sends a form in and the citation is cleared.

If you are pulled over a second time, beyond the 30 day period and you haven't had the problem fixed the police can seize the vehicle on site, have it towed to a testing facility and if it fails, deem the car un-roadworthy until it is fixed, leaving you high and dry.

Note: testing facilities on the island are visual only, they don't have equipment here to actually test the exhaust content/quality. They do however look over car pretty thoroughly.

Simpler to lighten-up on the accelerator. The more unspent fuel pouring out the back end in the form of a black cloud, the less being burned in the combustion chamber doing work for you.
