Oil pressure sensor
Hi
Just wondering, I want to install an oil pressure sensor, where would be the best spot to tap in,
Any one with a good suggestion ?
It is for a L300
Cheers

Re: Oil pressure sensor
I removed the stock one and replaced it with an autometer sending unit and gauge. Accuracy is a lot better (you see what the pressure is doing) vs the stock light.

Re: Oil pressure sensor
I should mention that I used mine to test the engine under load along with pyro/boost gauges. Once tested and heat levels were acceptable, I put the stock sender back as well.
The best option is to tee off the block and keep the stock one along with the new gauge.
The point of the oil pressure light is to tell you there is no oil pressure, and that catastrophic damage is imminent. The gauge is a good indicator of the operating condition of the engine, but is an accessory, not a neccessity for day to day driving. If you have a failure of some sort, the gauge wont 'come on' to alert you like the light so it's a good idea to use both.
I forget the thread pitch size. M 1.25 I believe. I had to buy an adaptor to fit the autometer sending unit.

Hi Farsang
That is a very good idea to keep bout
So where did you get the tee of conector from, do you have a part number
I have the pirrometer and boost connected this oil sensor sending unit hold me buck.
It's important not to screw up
Cheers

Re: Oil pressure sensor
I bought mine long time ago and just took the old sending unit in and matched it up with a T fitting and adapters.
New Line Fittings in Port Kells is where I went. They have other locations too and they will have every hydraulic fitting you can think of. Also used them for veggie and fuel lines/fittings.

Re: Oil pressure sensor
Just a suggestion, being that most of the adaptors as well as the autometer sending unit are brass. If you have too much weight hanging off of brass and expose that to alot of vibration (diesel engine) that brass can fatigue and fail. This would not only empty your engine of it's life blood, perhaps in an place far from help, but hot oil on hot turbo manifolds could light on fire. We usually suggest a flexible line and mounting the T and sending units on the body where vibration isn't an issue. I'm not saying this WILL happen, I'm simply pointing out a possible failure.

Re: Oil pressure sensor
Hi thanks for your input, it is a very good point
Nothing on this parts are bras. But I do prefer the hose connection for space purpose.
Thanks for the good input.
Farsang thanks for your quick response and for the surce you give me
Cheers

Re: Oil pressure sensor
Hi Farsang
Thanks again, yes the people at new line fittings are the best I was there les then 2 minutes.
All I can say what a difference all the gage's work.
And it looks very cool.
The part number is N5602-02-02
1/8 MNPT X 1/8 FNPT X 1/8 FNPT TEE
And is only 3.26
Cheers
