Hello,
Anyone with info regarding whistling turbo's? Mine has recently gotten a little louder. Note that there is no loss of power.
Thanks.

Re: Whistling Turbo
Hi,
I used to own a Merkur XR4TI wich is turbo and l added an intercooler in the process of rebuilding this car. Doing so l took the turbo out to check it (it's not too bad of a job) and the main thing to check was for obvious sign of deterioration (metal housing should be very smooth as for the blades) and also for any play in the blades. If the blades can move back and forth it a bad sign of wear. I don't know if the Delica's turbo is easy to access?
I hope someone can help you out more as it could surely be something else but this is my guess anyway... Good luck!
D.
ps. Has anyone thought of adding an intercooler on the Delica?

Re: Whistling Turbo
Without hearing the whine, the first thing I would expect to see is a damaged blade.
As for putting on a intercooler, if I had the motor out for some reason I would consider it but doing it with everything as it stands is just not worth it. It looks like the turbo will need to move quite a bit down in order to clear some good size tube to go to the intercooler.

Re: Whistling Turbo
Turbos have a sound that to me is like a siren coming up on ya, they do make noise, high pitch , if you listen to any city bus or freeway rig youll here the same sound some more distinct than others but they do make noise.
I am stable in most situations that I have no reservations in stormy conditions.
