What trailer do you pull with your L300?

Does your Mitsubishi L300 make a strange noise? Need wheel alignment specs?

What trailer do you pull with your L300?

Post by 72Blazerod »

Hi Guys,

I am thinking about getting a little travel trailer or tent trailer to take the family camping in. I actually have a 95 l400 with a 2800cc diesel, but I have seen a few L300s pulling trailers. Just wondering how much weight I can tow (I thought I saw 3500 lbs somewhere), what size trailer I could pull, and I'd love to see pics of your Delica and your trailer. Also have you made any modifications you have done to make your van a better tow rig. Thanks for your input.

i would buy a truck if i had to pull a trailer or give yourself a few more days travel, keep in mind that the 4d56 has less than 100hp packed into them so you are definitely not going to be pulling a 30 foot jayco down the high way with the vans. I am actually surprised that they can even pull a 3500lb tent trailer in all honestly. Keep in mind you bough a gutless but fun 4x4 van not a V8 truck!!

I have a little trailer that I purchased off of DeliCat. It's four feet by four feet by twenty inches and will carry over 500 lbs. It folds up into itself and has a retractable tongue, which is very useful when getting onto the ferry because when I retract the tongue just before the wicket it brings my overall length down to just under twenty feet so I don't get charged the extra fees. Huzzah! It can be a flat bed, it can carry bicycles.

Here's a picture of it in the ferry queue in the retracted state:

When I get off of the ferry I pull to the side and let the tongue out then I'm on my way. If there's space on the ferry I'll do it there. It's a great little trailer, amazing how much it holds.

Falco.

My Delica is great for towing the caravan (4 metre, max. weight about 1000kg):

When we use the car for towing you can really feel the wind resistance of the caravan at freeway speeds- but with the Delica you hardly notice any difference. ;-)

Punkrawler, I think it is funny you mention a 30' Jayco. I already have a 29' Jayco with a super-slide that I pull with my 2006 GMC 2500HD Duramax, but I wanted something small for little weekend getaways, not to go "glamping" like I do with my Jayco. I don't mind going slowly, people can pass me if they want, I just don't want to sleep on the ground - I'm too old and it hurts my back, 20 years ago maybe, but not now. Thanks for all your feedback so far, keep your comments coming!

Thanks,

Rod

what do you guys have your turbos set at then? do you have any other mods? are there other years with a little more squirrel power than others? do you have a different powerplant between the seats? My van is slow enough, i would not want to imagine pulling anything with it. could say i got used to 4.7 V8 tundra, still recovering from speed difference but off road fishing and camping in the van has been a blast handsdown!!

This is what Im pulling behind my van. Bought it early this year from LeesureLite. Its built for motorcycles so i only weighs in at 230 lbs empty and 18 lbs on the hitch!! When we picked it up and brought it back to Alberta from Osoyoos, I honestly couldn't even tell it was behind the rig.... its really that light!! But once we started using it to go camping, and loaded the trailer with coolers and bedding and chairs and what ever, I could tell I was pulling something. But I just take it easy and the van seems to do just fine with it. There is no way I could see myself trying to pull anything bigger than this.

I only break stuff so i can put bigger stuff on.....

I used to pull my 6x10 cargo trailer with it. Lightly loaded it would pull no problem, but I wouldn't recommend it for the freeway. Loaded with 2000lbs was tough uphill, but doable in the city. I wouldn't recommend a 4000lb load on the freeway though, that was a butt-clenching experience.

Unfortunately now I have to pull it with my CSX, funnily enough, apart from a sagging rear, it pulls better. :-D
