Does your Mitsubishi L300 make a strange noise? Need wheel alignment specs?

Bug Screens for the Side Windows

Post by philmeup1 »

Hello folks,

I had my first camping trip of the 2018 season last week and really enjoyed myself. My van has the rear side windows that will open up, but they don't have bug screens on them. Does anyone know if this was an option for our vans? Or has anyone come up with a solution to applying screens to the side windows of our vehicles?

Thanks, Phil

Pretty rudimentary but i just grabbed some fine grit mesh screen, cut it to the size of all the widows + extra to fold over some small magnets and stapled them in place.
I just can't forget to roll them up and store them away or else they'll come right off on the highway.

^That's what I did too. My first attempt was to sew magnetic strip into the hem of the mesh, but magnetic strip wasn't strong enough. Version 2 had magnetic buttons in the hem, and worked just fine. (Only works with sliding side windows though, the leaf windows are a bit of a pain.)
Nothing says "poor workmanship" more than wrinkles in the duct tape.

I went with rare earth button magnets. They are more than strong enough to hold the mesh in place. The cheapest place to buy them from is AliExpress if you don't mind waiting a monthish for shipping. I bought a bunch of them because they were so cheap...you never know when you could use more.

I got 20mm x 3mm. Anything less than 3mm I think is too thin. 15mm x 3mm is about the perfect size. You can get 100 pieces for $27 CDN with free shipping.

If you have rear sliders FTS sells screened louvers for them.
http://www.fts4x4.com/en/products/?meth ... il&aid=765

They also sell screens for the front/rear.

FWIW, I don't have any of those products... my rear windows are the lever type and I bought some cheapo slip over screens for the front windows (barely fit). Like these: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Car-Window-Net ... kU&vxp=mtr

I was interested in the screened louvers but at 80usd a pop plus 104usd for shipping its not gonna happen. Anyone know of any BC dealers selling the louvers? I would love to hear from you!

Thanks everyone for the responses. I've been away from my computer for the last week and I'm just seeing this now. The plastic louvered set up from FTS looks perfect. I agree the price is a bit high. But what about a group buy?? This completely solves the problem, and it looks like a clean factory option.

Let me know if anyone would be interested in a group purchase. I'm happy to do all of the leg work on this, and see if we could enjoy a better price:)

Cheers, Phil

Ok north 54, I'll message FTS and see what's up. I'm from Ontario, but one of the links looks like Maximum Overdrive carries them as well. Is this a place located out in BC? Perhaps I should call them as well?

I'd really like a set of these, or even one would be great!!

Ok, here's an update. I received a response right away from FTS. They sell the louvered windows for $84 USD each. I don't think that's too bad, but the shipping is another story. It's $108 USD for this and it takes 4 - 5 days. This is a total of $192 USD.

I've responded asking for a better deal if a few of us buy in at once. And maybe a better deal on the shipping if it takes a little longer.

I'll let you know what the response when I hear back.

Cheers, Phil

Thanks Phil I got the same quote from FTS last year when I was ready to buy a couple. Keep in mind their shipping quote for 2 of them was 151 USD. I assume they collapse into each other so shipping multiples shouldn't cost much more than the 108 USD. Keep me posted thanks!

Ok north54,

Here's another update. I've yet to hear from FTS, but I did get an email from Steven at Rising Sun about this. He regularly receives large shipments from this company and would be happy to help us with this group purchase at a discount. Even though I live in Ontario, I regularly buy my parts from Rising Sun Auto. Steven has been great to deal with. Good prices and very knowledgeable when it comes to the correct parts for our Delica's.

So I'm putting this out there to everybody on here. If you would like to get a set of these louvered windows, or even just one, please get at me. Once I have a final count, I'll pass this along to Steven and see what kind of deal we may receive.

Cheers, Phil

Hello out there!! It's me again. Is there anyone else interested in purchasing louvered windows for the side of their vans?? As I mentioned in my last post, we might enjoy a decent discount if we can get a group in to make a purchase through Steven at Rising Sun.

Get at me soon if you're interested, and I'll get back to Steven @ Rising Sun.

Cheers, Phil

I have the tilt windows so I can't use those covers. But when I ordered my snorkel/bash plates from FTS I had them ship surface (slow boat) at a greatly reduced rate.
