Hello everyone,

Recently I've been dealing with fuel leaking on my van. I've got that sorted, but now I have yet another leak I'm dealing with. It appears to be coming from the drivers side of the vehicle right around where the front right tire is and right below the drivers seat. I've also noticed a whirring sound when I'm driving the van and turning the steering wheel left or right.

I suspect this may have something to do with my power steering? I then realized that I've never looked at the power steering reservoir, and I don't even know where it's located in the engine compartment, lol. But from a bit of digging on here it seems it's located under the drivers seat, right where I'm seeing the fluid on the ground when parked.

So I'm wondering if anyone has any experience and/or advice on here about this? I've had the van for a little over 8 years and this has never been an issue. I read that these rarely leak fluid the way they're designed. So I'm hoping I don't have to replace the entire power steering unit as it major $$$$.

I suspect I just need to get the van up on a hoist and have a poke around. But if anyone wants to share their power steering stories they may have had in the past, I'm all ears.

I had a leak like that years ago. I tightened up the hose clamp for the hose that runs from the reservoir to the pump and it's been fine ever since. Hopefully that's your problem. Oh - you need to take the seat out to get at it.

Beauty, thanks for the reply. I don't believe I've ever had the drivers seat out, probably why I've never looked at the power steering reservoir. Hopefully it's something simple like what happened to yours. I'll have a look at it this week sometime.

I guess if you haven't had it out I should also add you need to take out the floor pan it sits on which is about 7 bolts and 1 screw as well as the fuel cover lever and the emergency brake. It sounds like a lot but once you've done it a few times it's no big deal. I could have showed you a picture as I had mine apart on Wednesday but it's back together again. Takes about 20 minutes the third time!!

Cool, I think I can manage that. Did you use any specific type of power steering fluid? I was at Crappy Tire today, but was unsure of what to buy.

This is excellent. I'm going to see if the shop teacher at my work can get the Dexron 2 fluid. I couldn't find it at Crappy Tire.

Thanks Alex. I asked my friend who teaches auto at the school I work at if he could score me some. He said that transmission fluid is sometimes used instead of power steering fluid? I'm not so sure about that.

Anyway, the cool thing is that I was able to put the van up on the hoist after work and I can see where it's leaking. I pulled the drivers seat out and removed that little panel that's hidden behind the carpet. All nice and dry there, But there's a line coming down from the reservoir that goes from flexible to metal. It has a leak where there was a little rubber grommet to keep the metal line from rubbing against the vans body. I'm hoping this can be simply repaired and I'm good to go again.

I'll post on here the results. Thanks again for the input.

My friend's new Delica project got this mysterious leak on the passenger side. Hopefully, it is just the clamp. We'll take a closer look this weekend after installing the new brake pads and tires from 4Wheelonline.
