I remember someone posting a recommended garage in Edmonton. I have it in my paperwork, but since I'm not home, PM me later today, and I'll dig up the info and post it.

Mardy Delica posted in March 2007 (http://www.delica.ca/forum/delica-parts ... 2832#p2832) that he recommended:
Automotion Automotive Repairs. Just passing it on, don't know anything about them myself.

Thanks for the suggestions! I have it in at the dodge dealer right now as they are familiar with the engine. The diesel techs there seemed really confident/familiar with the smaller diesel engine.

So I take it all back. The guys at Derrick Dodge in Edmonton have been terrible to deal with AND they refused to listen or discuss the issue with Paul at Coombs Country Autos. I have decided to cut my losses at this shop and get my van towed to Len at Automotive Automotion. Wish me luck!

Someone should PM William as he brings em into Alberta. Not sure if he gets work done in BC before getting it here but he might know a place around Edmonton.

I am Len from Automotion Automotvie Repairs. We have been working on all the right hand drive diesels and some of the gas models since they hit our market. I am a diesel tech by trade and have worked for diesel fuel injection shops in the past. Automotion was opened in 1982, so we've been working on diesels for a long time. 4 Wheel Auto doesn't like Delicas as far as I remember ( I may have them confused), and they recommended Len from Automotion.
Len did some work on mine and did exactly what he said he would. Pulling up there and seeing a pack of RHD diesels in the yard soothed my anxiety too.

And not to kick a man when he's down, but expecting any real service from a North American dealership on a NA vehicle, let alone a RHD diesel.... :shock:

Len will fix your car, period; you wont need luck. A VISA card, maybe :-D

Erik

edit: it turned out when I called initially, that Len had done a pile of other work on my vehicle before I owned it, and he keeps records/VINs etc. Damn good service.

I too am still looking for a proper/GOOD (diesel) mechanic, to work on my L400.

I STILL have the same problem (Starts very easy and once the glow-plug cycle ends it sputters and smokes. I have to either drive prior to the 3rd click, or restart it.) after 2-years!

Automotion:
$6000+ and Len was not able to fix one of my 3 initial problems. I had to move on because the ongoing problem was not even touched/partly rectified, yet the bill grew larger and larger. Sorry (Len and whomever else) but I do not think he ""knows"" Delicas: Oil changes with volumes too high and too low---never the proper amount ... as per the dip-stick; transmission fluids (after ""flush"") on 2 units, and both were low (3/4 - 1 liter too low); does not have customers best interests in-mind. Len did fix 1 problem for WHICH the solution (an old post) was provided by Rising Sun!
For my 2nd problem (all hell @ end of glowplug cycle), he tried to tell me I needed to replace my fuel injectors. Something which most mechanics whom I talk to have no idea why that (injectors) would be even mentioned.
I referred a friend (l300) and after a couple of visits he too refuses to visit Automotion again.

Apex:
They simply do not know Delicas [period].
They tried to charge me to repair my rear wiper as they thought it was seized. Fully functioning. They obviously could not find the bag ... NOR the on/off! They did not address one of my primary concerns (rattle from suspension), and it became worse after they replaced a sway bar, which I am sure Len replace less than 18-months ago.

Currently I am talking to:
1. 4Wheel Tec & Marine (9515 63 Ave) they work on many diesels (Toyota etc), as well Delicas.
2. A semi-retired diesel mechanic. He seems to be a proper diesel mechanic----a proper mechanic do not care about make and model for reasons other than parts availability----whom has a passion for the obscure & right-handed.
The only con is there is no rush jobs, which is fine by me.

I look @ my VW specialist as the epitome of, or the perfect definition of what I am looking for: dropped of my golf for a ton of minor preventative maintenance, in minutes he called me back to say he did not want to do the work because my transmission (not at all on my list of things) was failing..

I WISH Len/Automotion would have been that considerate (of my needs &/or financial standings). Over $3000 for the A/C (never mind how a part sat in limbo, unfixed because he and Marty had a spat) while there are obvious problems with the motor----fixing my nipples when I have a failing heart!

If 1 and 2 do not workout, off to Calgary. Maybe even drive to Vancouver (fly back) and leave my Deli with the pros whom do know!

I had the EXACT same issues with the two shops you have mentioned. I finally got pissed off and drove to Vancouver. No one in these parts have any real interest in working on our vans, but they love taking huge sums of cash. You can roll the dice and find somewhere in c-town but your best move is to go where they actually know what they are doing. I am trying to learn things on my own and with the help of this community, mostly as a cost saving measure.

Both shops obviously lack any sort of quality-control. If a shop can't get something as simple as fluid levels correct, what about the more important??

BTW, my l300 bud, whom had his transmission ""flushed"" by Automotion shortly after (the so-called service) found that his 3rd gear was blown! Still miffed@myself for recommending Len. Marty was obviously right about him (doesn't know what he's doing).

780Delicators, PLEASE, don't waste your time and cash w/Automotion, b/c they are:
1). incapable of a proper diagnosis ---obviously don't know what he/they are doing, or;
2). dishonest ... didn't care about customer, only the cha ching, or;
3). both of the above (1 & 2) !

too many shops run flat-rate/piece-work which means most so-called mechanics are by-passing important steps, such a the use of a TORQUE WRENCH---shops should not be using impact wrenches (cordless, pneumatic etc..)---so fasteners don't come flying off.

Expensive lesson learned: I don't waste my time with general mechanics!
Transmission = transmission shop
Suspension = suspension shop
Diesel (motor) = *still looking* I guess Edmonton has no diesel mechanics. Only specific-manufacturer-diesel-technicians.

Hmm, I'd bet my left & right that any farmer = better mechanics!

While I cant comment on EDM shops, here in Calgary, we have Pro-Active Auto up in the NE, I've been taking my diesels there since 09 ( first a surf, and now the Delica) and I have never had any issues with their work, they do quality work, and they do what they can to try and keep costs down, my bill afterwards is usually lower as they were able to get the work done sooner than what the book tells them to charge.
So they are probably the best shop here in Ab to take our diesels to without going out to the coast
