Turn signal Combo Switch L400

Post by Milo »

If you are having problems with your L400 turn signal combo switch failing you may not need to spend $450 + on replacing it with an OE part or need to wire in a momentary toggle switch or take your chances with a used switch that will probably break quickly as well.....

Beck Arnley part #2011974 will work and is availble new for $112 - $150 depending on your parts supplier.

Make sure to ensure the fit and function of this part before installing as parts stores should not return electrical items once installed. it will be your responsibilty to double and triple check the fit etc. That said, mine plugged in and worked without any modification.

the switch is for a Mitsu left hand drive, so when installed on the other side of the wheel it works the same , looks the same, probably is the same except for the headlight on/off switch will now rotate in the opposite direction from what you are use to. just make sure your lights on alram works.

Interesting find; this guy has it for even cheaper:

Have you actually tried this out on your vehicle? (Edit: Whoops, read that it worked fine for you. Very neat!)

Great find! So it worked perfectly for you- good to know. I have the auto lights function on mine so I am wondering if I could buy the part and then switch out the stalk with my current one? I think I can afford $50. $450 - not so much.

Craig

Edit: The only slightly crappy part for the Rock Auto link is that shipping is $28. Not sure if there will be a duty charge on top of that. Still a decent price.

I'm still waiting eagerly for the 2011974 to arrive this week, The switch I installed was very much the same except non Auto hreadlights BWD part# S14506. I Manage a Auto parts store and had the non Auto headlight switch in stock and gave it a try because it's housing I discovered was cracked in shipping so I didn't feel bad testing on it. I will return this one as defective once the 2011974 shows up for me to install.

The switch I installed was completely plug and play in less than 10 minutes. The only problem is the dashlights don't come on when I turn the headlights on and in turn the lights on alarm doesn't sound if you leave them on. I've been getting past this small problem buy just turning my driving lights on at night to activate my dashlights.

I'm hoping the 2011974 as good as the switch i installed but will work these functions as well (dashlights and lights on alarm) if not I really dont care that much considering everything about these switches are pretty much OE fit and function and not $450+ $

I'll post my results once the 2011974 shows up and I install this week!
At the very least I have perfectly working turn signals and headlight switch!

I'm sure with a club discount or sweat talking your parts supplier you could get that switch locally for very close to Rock Auto's price once you factor in shippin/duties. Support Local or at least give Local a chance!!

hope this helps....

Thanks for all the info Milo. Let me know as soon as you get the new one in if it works or not. My signal switch and stalk still work perfectly but the plastic base that holds the stalk in is busted so it likes to slide out all the time. Keep us posted.

Both switches are completely plug and play, old one removed new one installed in 5 minutes, however both will not activate dash lights and lights still on alarm.
For now i'll use the driving lights to activate the dash lights and be the reminder that I left the lights on when leaving the vehicle.

That said once i forget to use the driving lights and kill the battery because of the lack of chime/alarm i'll probably dig into a solution. On that note I'll probably start with the driving light switch tracing back to figure out what triggers the dash lights and chime off the Driving light switch. I would hope then I could jump a hot lead from the turn signal combo switch to that found driving light lead. Hopefully it's that easy, at least it sounds like it might work when shooting ideas from the hip!

If anyone digs into this and comes up with a solution please post what you have done. As annoying as those alarms can be its better than a dead battery!

The BWD number I listed above has the headlight washer button the Beck part number does not. other than that they appear to be the same.

Hope this helps
