Hi everyone,
Lots of searching on this form, other forms and general googling and I can't see to nail down which one type to run in this engine.
I found this nice parts list at delicaclub.com:
http://delicaclub.com/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=1667
which states 15W40 for both the diesel engine and the gasoline engine but I'm not willing to trust it. Seems strange to run the same diesel oil in the gas engine.
Does anyone know specifically what oil is to be run in the 6G72 engine?
Thanks very much, Scott

Seems as though it is recommended to use 10W-40 Semi Synthetic for the V6 (6G72), as per this thread:
http://www.mdocuk.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?t=79
However, your thread states 15W-40, as do many others. Seems 15W-40 might be the consensus, at least for warmer weather zones. 10W-40 is a bit thinner, so should be better for colder starts as far as I've read. If choosing a 10W-40, apparently it is important to get a high quality oil, possibly semi-synthetic as noted above. In any case, I have yet to perform my first oil change on my 96 L400 gas, so let me know what you end up going with, and if you have good luck...and whether or not you are doing cold starts too!
Cheers!

I've used 10-30 in any temperatures since I bought my gasser 43K kms ago. 15-40 is too heavy. Synthetic is too expensive unless you can figure how long to run it before damage sets in.

Use an engine with the correct S.A.E. Viscosity grade number for the expected temperature range.
For example,
Refer to the manual here: http://www.delica.ca/manuals/L-400%20Ma ... CATION.pdf

15W40 is normally intended for diesel engines due the detergent additives and better lubricating agents needed to fend off soot content caused by diesel engine combustion. With a typical Canadian winter (-15C and lower) the Mitsubishi diesels start better with 0W40 synthetic (my own experience). I am sure Vancouver locals can get away with 15W40 in winter.
gas engines for the Delica can use 5w30 in winter and 10w30 in summer. Average life expectancy of normal oils is 5000-6000kms between changes.
You can use synthetics in the gas engines and 20w50 is suitable for summer and then look 5W40 in winter.

Terrence, caution with the reference link you posted above. That reference doc is not meant for the 6G72 gas engine.

The S.A.E. Viscosity grade number-barometric temperature range chart is still the same. The operator's manuals for a couple of cars I used to own show the same chart for the 6G72 engine.
From around 2002, Mitsubishi specified 10W-30 for barometric temperatures above -20 °C and 5W-20 or 5W-30 for below 40 °C for models for Japan, but I suspect the specification is to help market the genuine Dia Queen motor oil.
