Transmission issue, maybe not

Hi Folks;

An unusual thing happened yesterday. It seems my transmission is getting its signals wrong somewhere. It seems to shift from 1 to 2 fine, but most of the time won't shift into 3rd (or OD). Once while driving on flat smooth pavement it felt like I was on washboard. I think this was rapid shifting between gears. When driving straight and level, I noticed that the speedometer was reading low. I wish I had my GPS with me, but I didn't. It felt like I was driving about 70kms but it was reading 40ish and fluctuating.

I would assume its just the TPS (which I will check today) but I don't understand the speedometer reading wrong and how that is related.

My gut feeling is its electrical, if that's possible. Are there related electrical connections on or affecting the transmission I should check?

I'll respond with what I find with the TPS...

John

No matter where I move the TPS I get a reading of 4.95 VDC

Now I wonder if I have the correct instructions...

"From the blue with red wire to battery negative should be .78 volts"

Is that correct? If so, I guess I need a TPS...

Problem seems to be fixed now, thanx to Steven and son at Rising Sun. They replaced the speedometer sender. Still don't understand the strange voltage on the TPS but it shifts fine.

The downside is that they noticed the coolant overflow tank is leaking. I replaced that about 3 years ago with what I understand is a Chinese clone. I guess I need to get the Mitsubishi one as soon as I can afford it...
