Doug..Doug..Doug - I know you have a job that someone must be paying you for, thus you must have the need to find the dirty "culprit" for unsafe practices. Well, I'm confident to say that you have both picked on the wrong issues, and mis-quoted statistics dramatically. It makes for good reading to the uninformed I'm sure, and probably assists you in your ultimate goal which is to secure your position as the protector of the innocent - for that I commend you, since yes...there are a great many misdeeds being done on our roads daily - and your services in this regard are required. However, I can assure you from my own long history driving RHD vehicles, 100% of your claims are unfounded. There may be a relationship between horsepower and accidents, and there may be a relationship between the drivers age and accidents, and a great many other factors, but based on my experience - I cannot accept that there is any relationship between accident rates and RHD vehicles specifically. The latest model I'm driving has 80 horsepower - about 40 HP less than the motorcycle I drive. I drive this vehicle as I would any other, and feel perfectly safe under the same conditions as a LHD vehicle. I find no problems driving RHD after my first day on the road (yes, the first day did require some adjustment, but nothing more than renting a car I've never driven before). Your "witch hunt" is heading down the wrong road so to speak. I'm sure you are a thoughtful and kind individual otherwise you would have chosen a different profession. However, I would recommend you do some more research on the subject before making such misleading and erroneous public comments. These RHD vehicles from Japan (commonly known as JDM vehicles) are in far better condition than most Canadian 15 year old vehicles, offer better safety features in vehicles of similar age, and far more amenties - otherwise there would not be a market for them. I cannot control the motivations of various groups within our country, but can assure you that the JDM - RHD vehicle I'm driving now is in top condition and poses far less threat while under my control than the brand new "Canadian Toyota" vehicle being driven on our roads by my dear old mother...but that is because of her driving ability (or lack thereof) and has nothing to do with the vehicle. I suggest you focus on improving the training of drivers - that is where your energy is best spent.

Why I am not surprised reading this article? Different country - same story. Our government tried to forbid RHD vehicles since 1993 till nowadays. I've read a lot of such crap. Nothing new: same arguments, no facts, no statistics, nothing real, just words...
I live in Vladivostok, 99% vehicles are RHD – but our region is not a leader in statistics. Even our officials can't beat that.
