Skagway (or Skankway as we started calling it) is a nice little town, if you stay out of the tourist trap downtown. The buildings are mostly obvious fake "old west", with lots of jewelry stores catering to the cruise ships. When you see signs like, "70% discount for passengers of XXX" you know the rest of them are being ripped off.

The drive from Carcross down the Skagway and back is incredible.

It was neat sharing the drive with the forum while it was happening. The entire trip is still strong in our memories, it still casts a stong influence on our lives. Having experienced the North changed us both, gives us a better understanding of such a large part of our country. Glad people are still enjoying the posts.

Just read this years later.

Sounds like an amazing trip with an amazing vehicle.

Thanks for sharing!

Thanks. It was, and is still remembered as an amazing trip. Hard to believe it was so long ago. A couple of years ago, we did a trip down to the Grand Canyon, and came through Yellowstone on the way back. That was also an amazing trip, too bad I didn't post a journey log of that one.

We should get together for coffee one of these days, since you are so close.

You don't get a window sticker just for passing "Go." You need 2 kg of mosquitoes, black flies and horse flies to prove you were there.

Well, we killed a lot of mosquitoes on that trip. Didn't see any black flies (but you never see them, do you?) or horse flies. I don't think there were any of those up North. I'd love to get one of those stickers. How do I get one?
