Rebuilt transmission, rebuilt transfer case, new brake master cylinder. Hmm, high mileage, or abuse? Or both?thedjjack wrote:Here is a 75 for $20,000 and change
I like the look of it though.

Re: Toyota HZJ79R
It looks to me like the only things lacking on those truck are rear fenders, a flat deck (although if the fenders are correct I don't know about a flat deck), side marker reflectors and probably a DRL module. Other than that I don't know what the whole they're-so-illegal-for-the-road-and-can't-never-be-registered-or-insured scrap is about.
But hey, who knows? Don't seem like anybody's saying how to make it work in this thread

Those tires are Bridgestone Jeep Service, 7.50X16. I thought that they don't make those tires anymore. The best mud tire! Had those on my old Zuk.

Are these still sitting down there in the impound or have they been destroyed or were they returned to port of origin?Adrock wrote:Today I was out by the Richmond Ice center and a friend showed me some very very amazing looking land cruisers. The old BJ body style, but they are BRAND NEW single cab 3 seater with just a frame on the back to do whatever you want. I want all the info I can find on them, wikipedia doesn't really even have much info on these specific ones but I do believe I found the correct model number which is HZJ79R. From what I can tell it is a 4.2L diesel, and it is bare bones. It has 5bolt steel wheels (15x6 I think) with very knobby but narrow "jeep sservice" bridgestone tires that look like 31s but they are very narrow so I guess they might have to be smaller?
here are some pictures... any info anyone could get me on any possible way of picking one of these up would make them my hero.

As that post was over a year ago, I suspect by now they have been delivered to whatever mine they were ordered for.mararmeisto wrote:Are these still sitting down there in the impound or have they been destroyed or were they returned to port of origin?Adrock wrote:here are some pictures... any info anyone could get me on any possible way of picking one of these up would make them my hero.

This thread got WAAAAAYYYYYY off-topic, was argued elsewhere on the 'Net, the answers to a couple of pertinent questions were actually answered (somewhere in the mix), and so I've cleaned out the rubbish and locked the thread.

most of the 'off topic' posts were actually about the legality of getting one of the vehicles in the original post on the road. Which was my question. The rest was still about the integrity of one of the few people who may be able to do this legally.

Proof stating that you can't register THAT vehicle on the road....
so, what do you have to do so that it is no longer THAT vehicle?
Seems to me like a matter of creativity, more than reckless law breaking.

Re: Toyota HZJ79R
This has actually been debated before for other reasons... what makes a specific car a car vs parts? and it is a tough one to define. but basically there is a problem here, if it is no longer THAT vehicle, then it must instead be a kit or homebuilt, if it's a kit then it's illegal again, if it's homebuilt you might be able to register it, but a homebuilt is more than a collection of parts from one vehicle, it is a vehicle made from parts of DIFFERENT vehicles (otherwise it's no different than disassembly/reassembly (or even "maintenance") or a kit (see the fact sheet I posted earlier from the government about kits))Adrock wrote:Proof stating that you can't register THAT vehicle on the road....

So if you took one of those mine trucks apart and reassembled it, it doesn't suddenly become homebuilt, it is the same vehicle again, if you reassemble 2 mine trucks in to 2 different mine trucks (swap half the parts between them) then it is either, still maintenance/the same vehicles, or you could argue it's a kit... which doesn't help.
If you took the mine trucks and combined them with parts from other types of vehicles (and we're not talking a window crank just to say you have parts from something else, we're talking substantial parts like engine/transmission/body/etc), then you start to maybe get a home-built unit, but it's also unlikely to be what you really wanted (which was simply one of those trucks)

Re: Toyota HZJ79R
I received a PM from crushers on the topic, and have been provided with sufficient evidence that this is possible, it is not as simple as driving one of the trucks in and getting it registered, but it has been outlined that it is possible.
It is not my information to divulge, and I respect that I wouldn't be 'in the know' if it weren't for crushers being sick of being called out by people who obviously don't get along with him for more reasons than just this thread.
Don't believe me, thats fine, but debating whether or not this can be done in this thread is no longer on topic. I am confident that it is possible and legal, based on the info I have been given, and it no longer needs to be discussed.

Re: Toyota HZJ79R
So you will take his word for it that it's legal, but won't accept postings of laws that say it isn't?
I can tell you he breaks the law, that is 100% for certain, which section is the only question, but without knowing how he does it I can't tell you that, but then again, you don't care.
Whatever. But I guess as a moderator you'll just simply delete this post because you don't like it, you'd rather be wrong believing it's legal, than allow any possible proof to the contrary.

Re: Toyota HZJ79R
your proof does not apply to his method.
and if you persist I will begin to understand his frustration.
As much as I would like it to be legal to take one of those off the boat and onto the road its not, nor can I afford it. I also cannot afford to go about it any other way, as there is work involved. So as much as you think I want to believe this so I can have one that is not the case. It does not fit into my life, and most likely won't until the internal combustion engine is only for collectors.
The only post I deleted was reported by a member (not me) and was not a positive contribution to the forum. As much as I would love to abuse the infinite power I have here, I don't.

Then tell me his method so I can show you proof that DOES applyAdrock wrote:your proof does not apply to his method.
What he is doing is 100% illegal, but you'd rather believe it's legal than allow any proof to the contrary.
Importers who break the law to import or sell newer than 15 year old vehicles are the single biggest detriment to our cause as people who enjoy imported vehicles. It is people like this that will ruin it for everyone else, this is the type of example CADA uses to show the government that they "need to do more". This is the type of thing that causes more restrictive laws that will eventually deprive us all of the vehicles we love so much.
