No photos handy, but ...

1972 Datsun 510 wagon (died in car accident several weeks after I got it)
1972 Datsun 510 wagon, did a trip to New Orleans for Christmas one year
1976 Datsun 710 wagon
1982 Subaru GL 4x4 wagon. Only vehicle I've ever bought new. Great for off-roading, did 115,000 km in first 2 years! Put serious bull bar on the front.)
1986 Subaru GL 4x4 wagon. Not as good off-road.
1991 Chevrolet Caprice wagon. aka "the Mothership", "Great Canadian Land Yacht", "Battleship Potempkin", "Battlestar Galactica" and others. Excellent example of how not to design a vehicle. Ended up not too bad after replacing seats, mirrors, adding lots of radios. With second row seats folded (normal position for me), it had long, wide load space, but only 28" floor to ceiling. Couldn't even sit up when camping. But did 3 road trips to Montreal and back. Too high gearing to accelerate, but could cruise at 160 km/hr. Did quite a bit of mild offroading, despite negative approach and departure angles -- it bottomed out front and rear leaving the driveway. Still have it, but is for sale. Green1 might use until he gets a roadworthy Delica again.
And finally ...
1992 Mitsubishi Delica Super Exceed.

The Delica is the first vehicle I've had that isn't a wagon!

Before my Delica I had an '87 Jimmy. POS cost me a fortune on maintenance and repairs.
Before that I had four Subaru 4x4 wagons, two '83s an '81 and a '77. Great cars, cheap, reliable and go anywhere.
'66 Pontiac before that.

Well you guys out in N.America probably won't have heard of any of these - let alone seen any.....but hey, I guess I ought to represent the UK side of this thread really?

Anything in BOLD is still owned by me and currently clogging up the drive/garage/garden!!

Mini 1000
Vauxhall Chevette GLS
Ford Escort van (RS2000 running gear, interior & nosecone!! )

The Barchetta - a true slice of Italian style. Fun, reliable, economical and pretty rare in the UK.

But the best has to be my Z1! Little heard of and very underestimated (I don't think there are ANY in Canada and only two in the States!!).....a true modern classic which still looks fresh & modern even today! Park it next to a Z3 or Z4 and see which looks the most dated? (you have to see this in the flesh to truly understand how stunning it is!) An absolute blast to drive....very rewarding to drive hard......and need I mention those doors?? I've not driven it for a few years because I've been too busy playing with Delica's, getting the house sorted and starting a business - but this (possibly along with the Mystery Machine) will be with me for a very VERY long time!! Can you believe that this car is 20 years old now?

Sounds like there may be a (sad) story there, did I miss it in another thread?

Yes there is... see url=http://www.delica.ca/forum/rattle-rattl ... -2859.html]this thread[/url]

long story short, my Delica's engine doesn't go anymore... and it sounds very expensive to fix, and outside my own scope.

I'm really not sure what I'm going to do at this point, but I have spent the morning working on my old mercedes trying to get it back in to running shape so I have something to use until I figure out how to deal with the delica....

Well, I can't speak fer Ruby (cuz her auto history is shorter than mine and also disturbingly German), but before we bought Juniper, I drove the following, in descending order...

Stacee Blu, a 93 Jeep Grand Cherokee, bought from a friend in desperation because Delilah the 86 AMC Jeep Eagle 2dr 4X4 I'd purchased for too-much-money from a strange JW family in Calgary actually had, like, NINE demons living in it and was making my driving life into a living hell (roadkills, accidents, sketchy cliffside moments, truly upsetting sounds), which was perhaps all I deserved, karma-wise, since I came into that vehicle after four glorious years with Old Paint, a beat-up but incredibly scrappy 82 Subaru GL that just ate up the clicks like they were nothing. I loved Old Paint. Here she is...
OldPaint.jpg
OldPaint.jpg (35.01 KiB) Viewed 7182 times
When she hit 400,000km I had her scrapped. Couldn't bear the thought of anyone else driving her, though that sure wasn't likely considering the paint job. But then, kids loved her. Anyways, I walked home 70 blocks in the rain after I put her down. Seemed the right thing to do... and then three weeks later Delilah rolled into my life. ::: shudder ::: Bad scene, man. The women you gravitate to after being with a good one, eh? Yeah.

Memory gets hazy re: the time before Old Paint. There was a two-year pedestrian period, I believe, and before that a 93 Saturn coupe and before that an 84 Ford Fairlane? Yeah, a Fairlane. Horrible yellow thing. Engine caught fire, though the 8-track player was a nice feature. I'd never truly heard Neil Young's "Harvest Gold" until I heard it on 8-track. Umm... before that there was a 78 Pontiac Grand LeMans but I was young, stupid, didn't know anything about cars, siezed the engine cuz the oil light was burnt out and I... just... never... changed... the oil, if you can believe. For two years I never changed the oil. And when it stopped working I thought it was a battery problem.

That's about it!

Me too. I also note that the first Fiat Barchettas will turn 15 soon. 8-)

The first Renault Twingos are turning 15 about now. They were all LHD (much to chagrin of our friends in the U.K.), so ICBC can hardly complain about them. 8-)

For the past 6 years I drove a 64 Econoline van similar to this one. Can't find any pics at the moment.
61 Econoline was the first real minivan. Delica is somewhat based on the same concept, mid-engine, sitting over front wheels. I decided to hand it over to someone who would do the right thing with the old van. It had a pretty solid body yet and original motor, it was getting tired and needed some TLC.

1st car: '68 VW Beetle (Baja style) Drove it until I attempted a fix and ended up severing the brake line. Then more or less gave it away (traded for a bicycle). As you'll see we give away lots of cars. My wife and I, when we can, live by the philosophy of "Gift to us, gift to someone else." Meaning if someone gives us something we try to give it away when we're done, or if someone gives us a vehicle, we give away our current one.

2nd car: '76(?) Honda Accord hatchback. Eventually gave it away, and the new owner abandoned it somewhere on the I-5

3rd Car: '80(?) Fiat Spyder convertible. Eventually gave this one away too. This was the car I had when I got married, note the steady decline from here on (until our present vehicle)

4th car: '86 Dodge Reliant K-car... don't ask

5th car (first and second child): '96 Honda Civic (the only car we've ever bought new - thus we traded in the k-car... and they gave us money for it!)

6th car (third, fourth, and fifth child): 2000 Ford Windstar

7th car: '94 Mitsubishi Delica Exceed. Aaaahhh, back to having a vehicle we love. I feel the same way driving it as I did in my '68 Baja Bug.
