Do the L400's use the same locking hubs the L300's use?

Thanks
J

I have to admit that I don't have my L400 yet, but looking at the manual that I got from the UK, and the pictures of my L400, it appears to me that they do not, it looks more like the hubs are always locked?

The hubs on the l400 are locked all the time, they can be updated to auto or manual locking hubs. I don't know however if the same hubs from the l300 will work or not. I am currently trying to order a set of manual locking hubs for a 94 montero, and hopefully they will fit. Any help with this would be great.

I guess the next question is... how much does it really matter?

we COULD put manual hubs on an L400, but does it really make much difference over permanent hubs, or is it just one more thing that can break, and one more thing you have to remember to do to use the 4x4?

My L400 has a manual hubs, and I'm guessing that it has something to do with the lift kit installed. According to the Delica.us site:
Image
Quote:
When the car body is lifted up, the drive shaft boots will be angled. This angled position puts the boots at a high risk for damages. If you install a manual hub, you can prevent this problem by not rotating the drive shaft. Please do not use "4WD" when the hub is set as "free." When switching to 4x4, please make sure to switch the manual hub to "4x4."

Isn't the L400 has the super select 4WD with an AWD mode? If so, the hubs have to be locked all the time.

The super select does have an all wheel drive mode, but it also has a 2H. It would be nice to unlock the front hubs for summer when they are not needed. Less parts turning=less wear=less fuel consumed. Even if you only unlocked them for long highway trips, and left them locked for the rest of the time, I think you would notice a savings. Manual hubs are also relatively simply, it is not common for them to malfunction, or be something that will give you problems. Auto locking hubs on the other hand, have been known to frustrate one or two people. I would still like to put manual hubs on my l400, if I can save 1/2mpg, its worth it. If I can do 10 different things that each save me 1/2mpg, then I will get... well you can do the math, but for me its worth it.

L300 = L400 outer hub size

Superwinch manual hubs for the Montero/Pajero/L300/L400 are the same.

Jesse, maybe you can be of assistance here, but my search shows that hub has now been discontinued by Superwinch.

It looks like they did. :-(

If you find any retailers online that have them, snatch them up quickly.

Otherwise if you want manual hubs, you only have two options.

Overpriced one's overseas or used Aisin's if you can find them.

I tried to find and order them a few month ago, but Superwinch discontinued them already in spring this year.
