On the block! stuff found on craigslist and other places!

Post by Chewy »

This thread will likely get moved but I vote for it to be seen here as it is good to have it highly visible. The idea is to post up links with short descriptions of stuff for delis you've found rummaging through the interwebs. Helps everybody save money and when that happens, we're all happy.

so first off, island folks, I found a set of 4 rims this guy is selling, he hasn't given an offset, but 15x8 and looking brand new... a nice upgrade from stockers into a good offroad wheel

You're right Chewy, we don't as of yet have a page that describes what you are suggesting. There is a discussion afoot to create such a page/forum ~ a sort of market page, was thinking of calling it "The Silk Road" because of the history of the Silk Road as being a major trade route in Asia and Delicas coming from Asia and they drive on roads, &c., but then it occurred that there was a Silk Road Autos already. So, we need to come up with a good name for it.

Any ideas?

Yeah, I see where you're going with it and I like it. The issue definitely lies in the Silk Road name. Not only is there silk road autos but also a number of japanese parts manufactureres and distributors called silk road in one fashion or another.

Oddly enough, and not for the sake that I'd said it already, but "On the block" is a sweet little piece of double entendre that fits quite well, due to the nature of things being butchered on blocks and our love for "Delis" as well as the more obvious nature of the "auction block".

I'll try and think up some more.. although I must say, reading comprehension is at an all time low as I've just had my wisdom teeth yanked and percocet has interfered with my brain in a way only good opiates can.

(also going to PM you regarding some painting I'm doing with a fuji MM4, I have some questions if you wouldn't mind giving me some pointers)

Yeah.... "On The Block" kind of gives me the impression of a Delica, sitting on blocks, in some backyard (sniffle)...
Nice idea, anyway... smiles.

Only problem is that others who may be looking at the same bargains may have them scooped once a third party posts them on here as a deal that's available.

For example if I was looking at those rims with the intent to purchase and it gets posted here then I'd be a tad pissed off :)

Just a thought, and I'm in no way saying that this should be a reason not to do it, but it is a common argument against this sort of thread on other forums on the net. One I frequent banned ebay links for this purpose, saying that those who look for bargains should be the ones to get them, or something along those lines.

Haha, thanks Gregg, I'm trying to keep things simple..

well, you cats can take it or leave it. It works on every forum I've ever been on that has a smaller group like this. Jaz's point is valid, yet moot in some ways. It's usually first come first serve, but many will honor you as the first contact and will hold stuff, so given the small increase in numbers viewing, I would say it's not going to make some guy jack up his price because he got a couple extra phone calls.. it's more likely that he's gotten none and now he might sell his stuff. In an auction situation, I totally see the problem. So not to get too beurocratic, but in light of Jaz's point, maybe as a rule keep posts local unless it's an ebay bulk seller and there's no chance of them running out?
