So soon the happy day will be upon me when I can pick up my Delica from the train yard and drive it, well, I suppose that's what I want to find out...
I've ordered new headlights and a daytime running light module. I called Pro-Active here in Calgary and they said that they can't install the drl module I already have and would have to buy a new one and then pay for the install as well. That seems rather expensive, so I thought perhaps I could connect the drl myself. Has anyone done this? I don't think I'm completely mechanically inept, but if there happens to be a step-by-step with photos kind of resource around, I could certainly use it. There's instructions with the drl module itself, but I don't even know where to start looking for the correct wires.
The headlights: should I just put the bulbs that are already in the Delica in the new headlights? How do I even access the headlight units? Does anyone have any step-by-step tips for getting the headlights out/in?
(I'm sorry if all this information is already located somewhere, but I've looked and looked and can't find it. Perhaps I'm just not looking in the right places...) A bit stressed about getting the Delica compliant without spending a bloody fortune! Anyone have any advice? Should I just cough up the cash? Is there anyone in Calgary who could help with this who'd like to be treated to beer or coffee or whatever for their expert assistance? Thanks
Cheers
Getting the Delica up and running
Re: Getting the Delica up and running
If no one local pipes up to help you, I will post a step by step how-to. Headlight replacement is a no brainer, it is just awkward getting to the screws unless you have a flexible screwdriver or one that is long enough to reach but short enough not to hit the bushbar. It takes about 10 minutes each to re and re them.
The DRL is pretty easy too when you know where the wires are. Again, if no one helps, I will post up something in the Wiki by the weekend. I have been meaning to do it for a while but it means taking mine apart to show how and it is kind of low on my to do list. But if you need it, I will move it to the top. Apart from that, I saw a how to on the side markers somewhere, I will search it out and wiki it.

Thanks EricN, I appreciate the help.
I just saw a thread about the daytime running light module, but a few photos would help me out tons!
And thanks to everyone on this site for the wealth of information that's posted, without it I'd be in some trouble.
Cheers!

Hi turf'd
I pasted the following from a previous post (don't know who to credit for info, sorry) on the bulbs for the headlights in case you want/should get something else than the original:
"I picked them up from Lordco. They where just over $100 a pair with
the taxes. So just over $200 for all four. They do also have the star
white bulbs for less. But I wanted the Xtreme whites, I have had good
luck with them in the the past for a car that ran a h3/h1 combo. They
do not offer the star white in H1 just the xtreme white so if you want
your bulbs to match you need to spend more."
"I have also found the silvanias to be very good in the past,
unfortunatly I have never been able to find a H3 bulb in canada to see
how they work. (only ever used h4) But when compared to the piaa the
piaa is a crisper bulb, more white less blue, and more of a distinct
line when adjusted. Almost HID"
Here are some links for more info
http://www.piaa.com/Bulbs/Bulbs-H3.html
http://www.piaa.com/Bulbs/Bulbs-H1.html
And same here, if I find the info for you l'll post it. In the mean time, if you need parts# for you Delica, I saved a bunch from previous posts that could come handy so don't hesitate to ask.
Cheers

Re: Getting the Delica up and running
Turf'd,
Just a quick note on my previous post. Some people mentioned that their aftermarket weren't lasting. Can't recall which model it was or if they ended touching the bulb with their bare fingers (a big no-no)... I've used the one described in my 1st post on another car and had no problems with them.
Here's a post that explain some on the DRL install and has some pictures as well.
http://www.delica.ca/forum/91-super-exc ... hlight=DRL
EricN previously posted the following:
"90% of those aftermarket DRL relays I have installed fail within a year, I had one fail in an hour... You are better off using a standard automotive relay and wiring it up with that. Cheaper and alot more reliable."
And Green1 posted this one:
"Mine was simply a fuse between the ignition line and the headlights the way the importer wired it, I have since re-done it with relays (which I have put inside the steering column)..."
Hope this help somewhat.
Good luck!

Also, as discussed in the other post, make sure all connections to the lights are soldered, tight fitting and free of corrosion.

Thanks all. I guess I'll see how it goes with the wiring! Soon I'll have some pictures up of the beast when it gets off the train.

Re: Getting the Delica up and running
Use the DRL from Napa. If you use the one from Canadian Tire, it will burn eventually. Napa one is basically a bosch relay all wired nicely for you. I don't have the part number handy, but ask for 3 wired DRL module. Insturctions are included but if you are lost, PM me, i will send you the photograph where to hook them up.

Check the Wiki, headlight re and re is there and the DRL is there but not 100% done.
