Possibly listing my L400 lwb for sale, thoughts on price?

Post by supa_fox »

Hey guys,
We are considering moving back to a westfalia for the summer, We absolutely love the Deli, but are wondering if the westy style might suit us better with the little one (pop top specifically), we have had the L400 for 2 years now, bit of a record for me keeping a car...

I am wondering if we do switch, what to list the Deli for, here are the specs, I paid 12500 for her, as is
'94 L400 long wheel base model 127K and have added a bunch of stuff.

upgrade to 17" rims with 265/65 Rotiiva Nokian tires (winter rated, but all weathers)
Mitsubi roof rack, and ladder
pioneer double din dvd/ipod stereo w/ some sort of fancy speaker upgrade
Airlift suspension in back (awesome, y'all should do it!)
HID upgrade hi/lo beams
K&N apollo
Remote starter 2 way w/ remote lock, dual batteries, in line coolant heater for winter (starts on own up to about -20 then you have to cycle the glow plugs a few times, usually had her plugged in though, started everytime, never froze out like my other diesels)

Work done: religious oil changes, tie rod ends both sides, power steering line (never cracked like I thought, one of the couplers came apart, fixed with a pipe clamp ontop, easy fix in the end!) ummm..... Thats it, she has run 100% problem free since we got her (90K) so looks like she will have a long life.
Had the full deli tune when we bought her, w/new glow plugs too.

Any thoughts on reasonable price? Any one I should talk to before listing (ie board members interested etc.)

Cheers guys!

Hey,
Given the work you have done
and the upgrades you have done,
I think at least 10k if not 12k would
be a good asking price.
The good thing about an honest( operative word)
owner sale is that there is a clear baseline
Of the vehicles operating condition.
You have also had time to work out any bugs
That may not been picked up by a dealer.
Lots of receipts of upgrades and work
done is great. (From certain well known Deli shops even better)
Anyone that is going to spend that much money
should get an inspection done, something alot
if overly keen (understandable) neglect to do.(not prudent)

Good Luck with the sale if that's what you decide on.
In my opinion, you should keep the Delica and just use the weary for trips if you can afford to or have the space.
I love those VW s but would never ever ever ever again
Count on one as a primary/ daily driver unless I had really deep pockets and lived beside a VW garage/parts shop.

Right On! 8-) :M

Hey Supa Fox,

I agree that ~12k for a very nicely maintained rig is a good price. Recently, I've seen a few nice ones for that much, but they were also pretty near stock. Considering you have added a bunch of goodies, I suspect you might be able to ask a bit more.

To give you an upper margin, I paid 15.5k for mine recently. Its got lots and lots of goodies (5" lift, aiba bull bars, back-up camera), but it also needed lots of tlc and new tires. I didnt anticipate the tlc, as i was a fool not to have it inspected.

Dont know if any of that helps. I guess the message is that there are people out there who are happy to pay 15.5 for a nice well maintained rig.
