Auto Transmission Freakouts

Post by cd_photo »

Hey Everyone,

Right from the first time I drove my L400 on a long trip I noticed that the automatic transmission has a tendency to be indecisive about what gear it should be in. But over the past bit I've been noticing it more. It seems like the transmission moves quickly up and down between gears multiple times. It seems to usually happen between 50 and 60 kph and again between 80 and 90 kph. Any thoughts? Anyone experienced something similar?

Thanks,

Colin

Had the same problems and have replaced my TPS (Throttle Position Sensor) because it kept changing voltages, and had the kick down cable adjusted properly. Also switched to synthetic tranny fluid. Smooth like butter now, or as buttery as a delica can be 8-) .

Thanks for the info, Cregan. Will mention that to the mechanic when I bring it in next.

Hopefully they are experienced in fiddling with these areas. I learned through lots of time and swearing to adjust and change the TPS, but I could not get the kickdown cable so I let the gents at Coombs get it just right for me.
