Didn't want necessarily to revive an old thread but I just saw waterless coolant on Jay Leno's Garage on YouTube. I thought I'd look it up here. Anyone has it in their Delica?

Currently I'm using G11. Here's the vid that Glenn is referring to. Interesting viewing.

P.S.: Leno keeps coming back to what standard ethylene glycol & water can do to aluminium ~ I have a brass/copper rad. They also make the point that many trucking companies use Evans to help keep their diesels running cooler. I would think for them to make these statements there would have to be a foundation for their comments. FC.

I add Royal Purple coolant additive to mine to keep the engine cooler and it really does work!

I love reading resurrected threads: "why does it seem like I've read all this before? I know what the next guy's going to say. Back and forth, back and forth. Oh, hey, new material..."

It's German, it's specially formulated and it's blue.

Formulated for Volkswagens. Does that matter? Or is it alright in our Japanese vans. If not I owuld be interested in hearing what everyone uses. I know when I had work done on my van, I saw Mardy top me off with some sort of Dodge Formulated coolant. Not even sure what it was really.

I'm new to this and depend on my friends for advice. There are many factors between the various coolants out there. The green coolants have their own properties, G11 is enhanced with agents that avoid corrosive behaviour toward your cooling system. You need to check which coolants have which properties because some are quite specific to certain machines. Some coolants have negative reactions with some seals, for instance. After G11 comes G12, G12+ and G12++. The last two are claiming to be compatible with G11, the jury is still out on that one. I haven't talked to my friend regarding the Evans formulae, being that one must keep a balance between the combination of the coolant and the water ~ water having the better heat transfer properties but also corrodes the worst, which is why distilled water is recommended. Evans says they don't use water, plus it is non toxic, you can drink it and not die (not sure I would like to test that claim out). At the moment I am mixing 40% coolant with 60% water and everything appears to be running well. G11 is it is meant for aluminium engines with anti-corrosive properties that are reportedly better than the green coolants. I also use LiquiMoly oil, originally designed for Merc. diesels ~ MLB's Astron engine loves it.

One claim that I have trouble with regarding the Evans system is never having to change the coolant again. In this world of attrition in which we live I believe that everything is going to go stale at one point and stale coolant isn't going to perform like fresh coolant, in my humble opinion.

Evans waterless coolant. Anyone use this?

'Waterless coolant' - is it just me or does that just sound like snake oil to anybody else?

Wait a minute - waterless cooling, like air-cooled? Didn't VW run an engine like that for decades in their first vehicle?

waterless because it contains no water...doesn't mean it is liquid-less. 8-)
