Are my rotors toast?

Post by lettereleven »

At what point do you know you need to replace a rotor?

No shuddering under braking, so that's good.

When I rotated my tires, I saw that there were big grooves on the rear rotor.

I have to get new front pads and calipers, and I wondered if I need to get rear too.

Yay, more money on the van.

They're not toast, they're round. :-D

Okay, seriously though. If you've got grooves on the rotors, it'll just chew up new pads (look for grooves on the old pads to match). Shuddering comes from a warped rotor and if you don't have that then they're not warped.

A lot of brake shops will tell you for free if you need new parts - drop in to one of those.

Thanks Paul!

I'll just pop by and have someone have a look.

Got all the bits for the front, and I am looking forward to the project.

Never realized it was the rear. Yeah you can get them turned, but the rear are just Montero rotors you can get anywhere so I would just replace them. Then you know your starting point, and they are not horribly priced because they are not Delica specific.
