I honestly didn't think it was hard to get batteries.
Look in the yellow pages under batteries. Pick some
One who specializes in batteries.
I went to a excide battery dealer in Saskatoon called
First filter who by the way sells Baldwin filters.

I wanted two batteries. We measured the battery bay
And went with the two largest that they felt would best
Serve a diesel and glow plugs.
No problems ever

I didn't go to Canadian Tire to save $10. I went to Canadian Tire because they are located just down the road from me and it was convenient to stop in on my way home from the office. This time they were unable to help with a battery but I had three associates working with me to try and source one. The automotive supervisor was actually heading on the door on his way home but came back to help his staff see if they could find something. They went online and tried a number of different things to help me out. Unfortunately, they could not source anything directly, but they did try their best. I was very happy (and surprised) with the amount of effort they put i, as generally speaking, most of the big retailers have staff who don't really give a flying fig about customer service. It was nice to see that there are some people who still care about serving the customer.

I have since located someone (Steven at Rising Sun) who is able to supply the battery I need.

I'd steer clear of them....personally. Batteries are pretty generic. Don't need to be paying "special" dealers prices.

Go to Edmonds Battery in Burnaby. Search on the site and you'll find lots of good reports. I personally haven't bought a battery from them but I know our local resident guru (Jay of Tardisdeli) swears by them. I took my L400 out to northern Alberta for work over the winter. I stopped by Edmonds Battery to see if I should get a new battery. They tested and said it was fine. They also got the alternator shop next door and they checked things out too. Again everything was fine. Total I spent.....0$$$....All free and no pressure to make a sale. I know where I'm getting my next battery from.

My L400 came with an AC Delco battery from Lordco and is still going strong.BTW

Thanks for the feedback and the recommendation. I've had a few email conversations with Steven at Rising Sun and he seems very friendly. He offered to do a FREE test of my charging system and gave me the details of the battery without any hi-pressure sales techniques. All in all I've found him very pleasant to deal with. I'm new to Delica's so don't know what the going rates are for parts, etc. The price Steven quoted me seemed reasonable and I liked his "no pressure" approach and offer to test my system free of charge. I'm more than happy to purchase from the local "Special" dealers provided their prices are reasonably competitive. I would not pay twice as much for a battery that I could easily source somewhere else. However, I have no objection to paying a little extra to a specialized dealer who really knows the product and provides good customer service. Small operations do not have the purchasing power of the larger chains, so their prices are probably going to be a little higher. If we base our purchasing decisions solely on price, all of the small, specialized shops will eventually close down and we'll lose a valuable resource. I'm happy to help support the local Delica community and shops whenever I can as I don't want to lose those resources in the future.

As an update to my last posting, I've just been in contact with Edmond's battery and their price is exactly the same as what Steven at Rising Sun quoted me. It's always good to shop around to ensure prices are competitive. In this case there is no difference in price at all.

That's the right attitude! Support small business!

The reason you'll see many telling you to avoid RSI is because many have had poor experiences, many have had great experiences though. It's a love it or hate it type of company.

Just a comment about RSI...... I have had nothing but good experiences from them. When I was out in Nova Scotia (back in BC now), they would always ship me the parts I needed and usually the same day. Their mechanic had no problem talking to my mechanic out there about issues which was a big help. The parts were always the right ones and high quality. From my understanding they actually stock parts and not order them like other places do. They probably do that as I think they are the only dealer that actually brings in Delicas from Japan anymore........... If you are gonna sell them then best to keep stock on parts :)

I have purchased 4 vehicles from them and highly recommend them for vehicles or for parts or repair to anyone. When I make the trip from Kelowna to Vancouver, I always stop in for them to give my Deli a tune up ;)

I had a service station change my battery and it has not and will not start after installation. They say it has spark and has fuel. Now they want to change timing belt. this was changed 60,000 km ago. Is it or does it have a computer that could have been shorted out when the battery was changed. this is the first time it has ever given any grief starting. I am already close to $500.00 for a battery and still watching the bill climb. Any ideas?? Please... L400 3 liter gas engine with automatic trans.
