Re: How often to do maintenance?
I would recommend attending the CVI Customer Appreciation Day. Apart from free food, they give seminars on general vehicle upkeep.Glenn Delwood wrote:I'm making a list of maintenance intervals/km and I would appreciate some of your input.
Oil?
I change the oil every 5,000 kilometres. The manual says to change the filter every second oil change ~ I change it every oil change.
Air Filter?
When it gets too dirty. I check the air filter, I blow it out with compressed air (inside out) which buys more time. Typically one or two times per year, depending on how often you drive and what the conditions are, such as in 2010 when there were many forest fires and much soot in the air.
Fuel Filter?
Every thirty thousand kliks.
Transfercase?
Every couple of years.
Differentials?
Along with the transfer case.
Transmission?
I check the colour of the ATF periodically, if it's getting a little on the brownish side then I change ~ otherwise ~ every couple of years.
I change the coolant every two years, as well. Like everything else it goes stale.
WVO (if equipped) - what do you change there, the weg filter? Do WVO people change oils more often?
Falco.
Sent from my smart pad, using a pen.

Re: How often to do maintenance?
Is this L300 specific? I thought the L400 timing belt should last the life of the vehicle? Also, I've never had my valves adjusted either... Seems to run fine though. Any thoughts?

If you're replacing the valve cover gasket, you might as well adjust the valves, otherwise I wouldn't worry about it. The L400 has a timing chain rather than the belt, it can last for a long time, but sometimes can need replacing.macro wrote:Is this L300 specific? Ahh the chain, is there any way to tell if it needs replacing? I've known a few motors that had the timing chain go, it pretty much destroyed the engine. They did almost zero maintenance on those motors though.nxski wrote:
