I have a Stihl chainsaw, so I buy the Stihl premium 2/oil by the litre. I kept one of the 100 ml bottles that came with the saw in the first place and use that as a general rough measure (100ml-ish), along with about a quarter of a gill of Howe's Diesel Treat per 60ish litres of diesel.

P.S.: I know thread this is regarding an L400 (4M40 motor) but I don't see a lot of difference between the 4M40 and the 4D56 as far as fuel conditioning ~ FC.

Howes Diesel additive...every big rig and fleet diesel in bc(almost every one) have been running this stuff for years. One thing I've learned over the years is when looking for after market products to keep your vehicle going, look at the trucking industry. Mileage, longevity and reliability are golden in that world! I've been using it for 15 years myself, and it is affordable, the only issue is that the bottle is huge(treats 1200ltrs) and designed for a rig with 2-600ltr saddle tanks. Good stuff though.
