The AC worked flawlessly from Vancouver to my beach in Mexico last year, but died before I headed home (hot trip)
Now I'm frustrated. I thought it would be obvious how to adjust the L400 AC belt.
It squeals when the AC is turned on.
I just changed the oil and filter so it was a good time to check the belt from below, and ya, its loose. Looks like there is a belt tensioner to be adjusted from above.
Anyway, I finished the oil change and had a look in the "manual". No where in the 1500 pages can I find the procedure.
So when I get time, I will start taking things apart from the top, but I thought I might ask here for any potential pitfalls before I start...
Suggestions? or just go for it?
thanx

Re: Adjust AC belt
I'd start my focus on the A/C tensioner pulley. It shouldn't spin freely with the turn of your finger, that is if you go to spin it it shouldn't keep spinning, you follow me? If it spins too easily or rattles it's toast. If this is the case then you will need a new one, not a second hand one. I believe the price is under $100, at least for the 4D56T ~ I can't see the 4M40 being much different.

Re: Adjust AC belt
When I tried to loosen the bolt I snapped it right off. I didn't loosen the locking nut first. I found good instructions on one of the other forums, I'm noooot sure which one though. I think I just googled "L400 belt change" and found something. I'll see if I can dig it up!

For the sake of completeness;
Disconnecting and swinging the intercooler aside, plus reading the third party L400 manual (in the Wiki) makes everything clear...
