Poor sick Delica in Victoria...
Hello all,
I bought me a sweet sweet ride in around June and loved it to pieces. I went for a little too much 4x4ing about two months ago and nicked a hose underneath wich bled my cooling system bone dry and I cracked the head..... $4500.00 later I had my baby back and swore to take good care of it. Drove it up to Port McNiel and had a blast only to come to a screaching hault just in from sooke. I towed it to Marigolds Service where I have had all my work done so far. He has since told me that I need a new block. So its looking like I need to put another four or five grand into her to make her better. He said that he also had two others in for similar work.
Sorry for the build up but here is the question..... Has anyone else had any experience with this stuff and (no offence to Ray or the guys there) but does anyone have anything to say about Marigold Service? Also where do other people get there work done and should I get a second opinion? I feel bad towing it somewhere only to find out that he was telling the truth. I am also thinking it might be worth it to sell it for parts and buy cheap or another delica.
A little overwhelmed and looking for any information anyone has that could help. Thanks for your time.

What was the cause of the screeching stop outside of Sooke? Could it be related back to anything you did during your 4X4 experience or do you suspect that it is related to the work done post-4X4? Two others in for similar work? Is there a trend developing here? Have you talked with the owners of the other 2 vans to see if there is some commonality with respect to how they all came to have a cracked block?

That sucks!
I am no mechanic but wouldn't it be obvious if the block is cracked? I say this b/c taking it somewhere else might not help you with something that might be a obvious thing. Can you see this sort of thing? Experts thoughts?
I'm thinking that your idea of parting this thing out is not a bad idea. You can likely make back the money you have put into the head work at least.

Re: Poor sick Delica in Victoria...
Ray at Marigolds said that the cause was undetermined as of yet but something like the balance shaft belt came off for some unknown reason so I lost oil pressure and a bearing ceased. The guys at rays are working on a couple of Delicas and other JDM vehicles and their consensus is that aside from the main problem of the timing belts is that they are not well maintained so the cooling systems are all bunged up, no engine flushes and such. So just passing that information on to yall.
I went to he meet last night, lots of good folks and now thanks to the info I got there I'll likely be checking in at coombs country auto for maybe a little advice.
someone suggested looking at the difference in cost of fixing this one and selling to buy another. I don't know but I feel like I am always going to have a worrying feeling of distrust in this one. But in fixing it I will have a new motor so nothing should go wrong with it for a good long time...... right?
I don't know. Still looking for any words of wisdom or advice.

PS if anyone has a spare block they want to get rid of...
