Empty inclinometer?
I just got my inclinometer/ altimeter installed (the pod needed some fixing) and I noticed that the inclinometer is a little on the weebly wobbly side. I've heard that these things can leak, I'm wondering how much fluid is supposed to be in it. Is it completely full? is there only a small portion of it that is filled? I've heard that the best thing to fill it with is glycerin, so Im standing by to hear from you folks before going to the chemist.
Cheers,
John

Yep, fill it up with glycerin, but not nitro glycerin.
Did mine about a month ago and it's an easy fix.

Re: Empty inclinometer?
I removed mine.
What does anyone really need useless information such as incline and altitude taking up area on a dashboard? If I'm concerned about such vital data, I need more excitement in my life.
IFA rules require a glide/slip indicator, false horizon and altitude, driving a van don't.
I've seen posts on this sight relating to the altitude descrepancy. I live at sea level and go up to 3500 feet almost everyday. They're operated by barometric pressure, so any weather system will vary it- get rid of it.
I don't need an inclinometer to know I'm going uphill, I have to downshift. Even in the fog I can tell - power gone = hill steep.
I'm sure I'll know when I fall over on my side.
Waste of space.

Re: Empty inclinometer?
I too think they're cool and quite like having mine if I'm out 4x4 on the trails. I think part of the reason for having them is to prevent you from ending up on your side, not to let you know that you are. The altimeter is defiantly less useful for telling you your actual altitude, a GPS works much better, but it is great for letting me know when a Chinook is blowing in. I believe I will be replacing my altimeter for a combination pyro/boost gauge......although I do like the pirate bobble!

No, just regular diesel. We should investigate how we could hook up the deep-fryers though, eh? That way, when we're finished cooking up fish-and-chips for lunch, we switch over from "fry" to "dive". Yo-ho-and-deep-we-go!

I've been a lot more extreme than this, but didn't have the guts to get out and take a pic, so these milder ones will have to do!
A lot of people in the UK have used bay oil instead of glycerine. The main thing is to find out where it has leaked from and seal that up first otherwise you may end up with a bit of a slippery dashboard!

Re: Empty inclinometer?
I agree that you don't NEED the dash pod... but lets face it... you don't NEED a lot of things, that doesn't mean you can't enjoy having them. worst case, there is no conceivable down side to having them.
The altimeter I find to be surprisingly accurate actually, yes, it will vary with the outside pressure, but the newer ones even have the calibration printed on them so that you can adjust them to match the proper pressure, the older ones, well I calibrate mine at a known altitude before setting off.
The inclinometer, well I need to fix mine too as it's a little too wobly at the moment to be overly useful, but it's still neat to know just how steep that hill really is (and as Bruce points out, how bad the side-slope is)
These vehicles are fun, so are the accessories (that and my pilot friends love the dash pod)

LOL, that there's funny yawl - a veggie hybrid sub. It's not a yawl right, just a nice ketch.
Bruce good pictures of the Mud Monkey, they really show the MM shackles clearly being put through the paces.
