keyless entry not working since alternator replaced

Post by dawsoncoull »

Hi. Ever since the alternator failed my keyless entry stopped working. The alternator was replaced but still no keyless entry. Maybe these issues are related. I changed the battery in the key fob already. Has anyone had this happen to them before. Maybe there is something that needs to be reset I would appreciate some advice. Thanks

Starting with the least pain and cheapest cost:

Assuming the locks work manually when you activate the switch on the door. If not then a fuse it at fault, look under the dash. Easy fix

There is also a keyfob activated relay under the dash that can fail. The relay can fail in lock mode, unlock mode, or both. If you have partial keyfob control then you should be able to locate the relay and just replace it. Sorry not sure of its exact location.

If the door-lock fuse is okay and the relay is also okay then you may need to reset the receiver. The radio receiver unit on the L400 resides in behind the panel aft of the rear heater...way back! Yep its in the wall and its a crappy place for this to be. The receiver has a set of buttons for pairing remotes to the L400 entry system. I'll have find the button sequence but I recall its very simple.

If all that still fails then there more involved issues that require parts replacement or patience to track down a bad connection.

The Aussie site had this step by step for key fob setup.
To use the links you must register on mdocuck.com.uk

1. Locate the diagnostic (data) connector.  See Lewis' post in this thread: http://www.mdocuk.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?t=23953

Pin numbering is:

2. Turn ignition switch to ACC

3. Ground terminal 1 by linking to terminal 4 (paper clip worked well)

4. Turn ignition switch off then back to ACC, then off again.  Door locks cycle.

5. Press the lock button on the fob three times. Door locks cycle

6. And again for other fobs

7. remove paperclip

8. Ignition switch off

9. Remove key and test your newly-coded fob.

Took five minutes!

points:
Old coding is wiped, so existing fobs also need to be recoded
More than two fobs can probably be coded
It may be possible to identify the sensor type by looking through the ashtray hole: I'll post pictures later

New fobs are now much less expensive from Mitsi: around £60

I still need the case only for a "two grey buttons" fob as this part  number is no longer listed.  Any offers?

Thanks all
