Delica Canada Downtime (October 29, 2007)

Post by mark »

This website went down for about 1/2 and hour or so this afternoon, due to some unsuccessful upgrades (the new version of phpBB3 works fine, but the Delica Canada template doesn't function on it).

Thanks, Keith for bringing this to my attention!

Also, sorry to anybody who missed out on their lunchtime reading...

Well, I learned an important life lesson this afternoon - If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

As my lunch-hour project I tried updating this board software (phpBB3) from the current version (RC5) to the latest version (RC7). Trouble is that this forum uses a template that has not yet been updated. So, to make a long story short, I had to reinstall everything from scratch...

At this point, it seems like everything except the RSS Feed has been retored (and most importantly no data has been lost). Also, as I'm typing this message, I notice that the blue in the page header seems abit too bright.

If anybody does encounter other malfunctions that I've missed, please do let me know though...

Thanks again for everyone's patience!

you should know better! my last "5 minute upgrade" while I was running out the door for the evening ahead of a busy week involved my webserver, dns server, and mail server being down for 3 days  (and cost a couple hundred bucks in new parts...)
NOTHING is ever quick and easy... I try to remember to schedule a full day for any upgrades, that way it will all go smoothly and be done in under 5 mins :)
If anybody does encounter other malfunctions that I've missed, please do let me know though...
come to think of it... we seem to be out a couple more smileys... namely shock ( ) and cool ( 8-) )...

Hey Mark! I was trying to add the RSS feed to my RSS reader and it does not appear to be working. I see in this post that you broke it back in October  and I was wondering if it is still broken or is just me being a little RSS illiterate.

Thanks,
Mark

Hi Mark -- the RSS feed seems to work in my own reader.

Maybe for starters, please check that you're using the following URL for the feed:
http://www.delica.ca/forum/rss.php

Also, could you let me know what error message (if any) you are getting?

Is anyone else having trouble with the RSS feed?

Thanks for the reply Mark. I was using that feed address but my reader is giving me the following error when i try and add it:

Feed contains a XML syntax error:
There is an invalid character in the given encoding. Line 16, position 560.

I just started using RSS feeds and this reader (RssReader). I was able to add a number of other feeds using the same technique that i was using for the Delica.ca feed.

If it is working for you then it likely something on my end. Which reader do you use?

Hmm... I checked again this morning, and RSS feed still seems to work fine on my computer...

Am using RSS Reader.

Another alternative is to use the Google RSS Reader to test (web-based application).
