Mitsu UK tells me they don't recognize the part number for the 1994 PF8W A/C compressor.

I sent a query to the UK Mitsu person, asking whether their parts catalogue says enough about each part that they might be able to cross-reference the old part number with a new one. He says normally they look up a part number, and if there is a newer substitute their catalogue does tell them.

(of six part numbers I sent them, they only recognized one in their parts catalogue)

The Russian site lists part numbers but looks like many of the original part numbers (if they ones they list here match the real part numbers) have been discontinued. (ref. http://mitsubishi.epc-data.com/delica_space_gear/ )

oh and they call it the "87023 COOLING UNIT,A/C" -- I believe that means compressor... though in the english manual they do call it a compressor.

The question for me now is whether the 1996 compressor would fit the 1994 one... in 1997 (e.g.) would Mitsubishi dealerships have just used leftovers of the older part, or started substituting the new part.

In a Japan auction site (like eBay but they don't use eBay much in Japan), there is an A/C compressor for a PE8W but the part number listed is different. e.g. I found this online: http://aucview.aucfan.com/yahoo/c265415509/
MB958789 -- when I plug that into the Russian site I get nothing.

I can just imagine the fun the parts dealers have.

Try Amayama trading ( http://www.amayama.com/ ) to search part numbers. Some parts (torsion bars) are no longer available through Mitsubishi but they have most part numbers.

I frequently type the part number into Google and find lots of places that sell the parts I'm seeking.

I've been trolling the Japanese auction sites and sent e-mails to parts suppliers, maybe one of them will respond.

At the local diesel vehicle repair shop here, they have a guy whose only job seems to be trying to find parts for trucks etc.

Can't you rebuild the compressor, even as a DIY. Nothing requires rocket science these days, especially at that price.

Not sure... I am not a mechanic, I have no idea how they are made. Given the prices quoted on some reseller sites I considered it, there is a place in Japan which is posting refurbished A/C units of all types:

I sent them a couple of e-mails but they haven't replied.

An auto parts rep from a parts shop in Japan asked me something like "don't you need the MR360999?"
I asked them if that one is for the PD6W, I found an auction with that part number but the seller said it was for that frame type.
I sent them all the info I have on my van model number, etc. They double checked and assured me that the parts are indeed the same (or compatible).
Apparently they have different (newer?) part numbers in Japan at least for some parts.

Trying to sort out shipping, which will probably cost me an arm and a leg.

By the way the Japanese auction sites are interesting, it's rare but sometimes odd things appear, like:
Did you know there was a Chamonix shovel? It never would have occurred to me. That item was for the 20 year special edition, according to the auction.
Someone is selling a Delica pin from some PR event for the Space Gear
Some manuals and guides sometimes appear
There is a Chamonix (again) folding ladder which seems to come in a zippered case with a handle...

Google translate doesn't do a great job; when people add "low price" in their auction, Google translates it as "cheap"

If you had the time I'm sure you could rebuild it but ..

What was the problem with your old compressor? Just wondering why you need a new one, if it's an electrical or mechanical problem or in line switch/safety powering the compressor. Have you tried charging the system just to get you through the summer. Out here we only have a few weeks of hot weather (Vancouver area) when ac is needed.

You must need (per the manual) a larger (?) compressor for the longer deli. I guess..


I'll definitely need that Chamonix shovel for my new van. That's a must have item. Ha ha

Good idea to search and translate the items you're looking for. Haven't done that yet.

I had it flushed and recharged full of R134a, right now it produces some cold when I am driving around, but while idling the temperature of the air coming out of the vents quickly becomes just room temp. Some sunny days it's quicker to just open the windows and drive.

The mechanic also mentioned that once charged, the pressure was fluctuating, as if a valve somewhere might be loose but he wasn't sure. It's not losing fluid, just that the pressure was going up and down. He said that if the compressor "blew" (whatever that means) pieces may have spread through the system. He also said if that happened I might want to obtain front and rear evaporators just in case but given the price of a compressor... That will have to wait.

I brought him the A/C manual and he looked at it but he seemed a bit surprised (impressed?) that the van has front and rear evaporators, two sets of controls...

I started looking for a new compressor because that was their recommendation.

Yesterday my 8 year old asked me "dad, when are we going to Japan?" Maybe in five years... we're aiming for five years. I will bring a big empty suitcase to fill it up with parts, maybe.
