ABS Indicator...

Post by tyrant02 »

Delica is with OOP inspector/mechanic, but I'm pretty sure it was a solid indication, not blinking.

On a different note, the transfer case indication confuses the crap out of me. sometimes its flashing green, then solid green, then flashing amber, then solid amber. Tried to play with it by idling down hills, unloading and loading the engine different ways with geography, but still no idea what it's telling me.

cheers.....

What about a faulty G-switch? this would disable the deployment of the airbags in the cab, no?

I don't think you understood my explanation........

The 4WD Super Select system is loop wired into the ABS system, yeah I know weird right?

There is a grouping of 5 indicator switches on top of the transmission and these are not off the shelf items here in Calgary. These 5 switches activate the green and yellow Super Select 4WD system and there are 2 switches of the 5 that can cause the ABS light to stay lit when the tranny is in 2WD.

While in 2WD the lower green light in your super select is illuminated in fact its always on.
The top green light will flash when you first engage 4WD Hi-range. It goes solid when the 4WD fully engages the front differential. If it keeps flashing there is probably an issue with the front differential engagement system which has a vacuum solenoid pair on the drivers side firewall. The solenoids activate the front diff engagement lever which has a vacuum can at the differential. (confused yet??)

When you pull the transfer case to 4WD lock that engages the center differential lock in the transfer case and causes the yellow light in the super select to flash until it fully engages. A continuous flashing of the yellow light is caused by 1 of 2 of the 5 tranny switches mentioned earlier. It also causes the ABS light to stay on...(not flash).

The switches can be tested in the tranny with a conductivity tester. Unplug each wire and test for function by cycling the transfer case lever through the positions.....pulling the switches from the tranny and testing each one at the bench is risky as the single wire is usually hard from age and can break off while removing the switch.

Figure out which one is bad then call Steven at Rising Sun Importers in New Westminster BC. He carries these in stock at around 50$ per plus shipping.

Here is more info from our UK brethren on the Delica Super Select system.

Looks like this thread has been hijacked

Tyrant, if you want more response to your questions, start your own thread (topic) with your van issues, in the correct forum category, instead of asking a question on someone else's introduction thread

I have split the thread and placed the new thread (ABS Indicator...) into L400 Technical. Thanks for the heads up, Big Bird.
