I'm a novice with diesel engine this winter. How do you prepare your engine for our cold temperature??? Oil, glowplugs, diesel filter ect.....

This morning it was only -2C and very humide and my Deli had a very hard time to start.. I'm scared for the -30/-45 of Cold lake.

1 or more of your glow plugs are probably weak. Look on youtube how to test glowplugs. Very simple process. Get a good quality set from the JDM parts suppliers in.BC. Mardy at amazimg auto has a good set with a 2 year warranty. Pricey units but they work over a much longer period. Good idea to keep spares on hand considering where you live.... GP's are not an off the shelf item in Cold Lake!

Oil: get your oil changed to a 0W30 Full synthetic. Most oil change places have it in jugs or if you're able to do it Canadian Tire works. Mobil 1, Castrol....etc.

Does the engine have a block heater or oil pan heater? Block heater is best but a pain to install. The oil pan heater(Canadian Tire keeps them behind the counter) is glued to the oil pan. Get the one that covers most of the bottom of the pan for maximum heat transfer. I have one, works great!

Washer fluids.....the rear unit is a bag and can easily be torn by freezing fluid. Male sure you got -45 in there.

Battery/alternator test: Get these checked and make sure output is proper. Alternators push 65-80amps and 14 - 14.5 volts when working properly.

Big Bird knows more than I do but last Spring I discovered that for winter diesel I got slightly better fuel economy by adding some 2-stroke oil to it.

They put some sort of anti-gelling agent in the diesel! I felt like when I discovered the McDonald's Chicken McNuggets might not actually be made entirely out of chicken.

Thank for your advice!!! I'll check my glow plug this week-end, it´s crazy how many stuff that we can learn on youtube... Last year I went bowhunting for the first time and I had never dress a deer. After couple youtube video on the subject, I shoot my deer and dress my deer like a pros ish..
I already contact Steven and he gave me some trick about my problem. Maybe it´s my glowplugs relay.

I've got a manual glow plug switch, that combined with an oil pan heater has been great for me.

I will order new glow plugs and I will see what happen. I have a oïl pan heater too and a battery blanket.. I will installe a collant heater for this winter too.

Don't waste your money on the Hyundai plugs. Go for the NGK replacements. Those are available from CC Autos.

Ok this is good to know.... I don't know which one it is I buy them from Rising sun.. NGK gonna be the next plugs.

Bought on eBay. Very inexpensive and good to go!

Just a picture. NGK y-115t1 plugs. On the UK site a few guys measured and did the math and found these plugs were a match for the l400. You can go over to their webpage and do a search.

NGK Y-115T1 crosses over to NGK 2189. Might be an update to the part number.

If you use the international YouTube in the UK they sell for $13 ish each. Shipping for 4 should be about 15$.

It´s alivvvveeee!!!! I change the glow plug and start like a new even at -12 without to be plug.
