A few years ago I modified my dashboard just a bit in order to install a car PC. viewtopic.php?f=10&t=12731&p=98808
The car computer worked... as well as can be expected for something running Windows? I went through a motherboard a year (who knew they're not designed to be bounced around inside a vehicle? huh) until I gave in and bought an Android based double-DIN nav system.
Which meant more dashboard shenanigans. I love shenanigans.
Basically I've added a double-DIN mount hole at a reasonable height for use while driving, and extended the binnacle to encompass the new stereo. The hazard and rear wiper switches are moved lower, which makes room for (mismatched) boost and pyro gauges. I'd already moved the air vents when I first modified the dash.
I couldn't find brown vinyl in the correct grain, so ended up re-covering the dash pad with brown leather. Fancy.

Nothing says "poor workmanship" more than wrinkles in the duct tape.
