New Windshield?

Post by volnoir »

Everytime I drive across the Coquihalla I seem to have a rock hit my window. Seems like on the L400 they are magnets for them. Anyway on the last time over by the time I reached hope the rock chip had already splintered a 1/3 across the windshield. Was wondering how hard it is to get a new windshield, what I can expect to pay, and if insurance covers it anymore?

Thanks (BTW I am in Vancouver).

Contact Vision Auto Glass, they carry Starwagon windscreens ~ seems likely they carry Space Gear windscreens. There's one on Rosser, in Burnaby and one in Richmond, a couple of doors down from Amazing Autos (off Bridgeport). As far as getting a chip every time you do the Coke ~ I'd take another road, one less travelled.

Contact Vision in Richmond. The manager can get glass from 1 or more locations (usually Amazing Auto). Call ahead though.

They installed my L400 windshield over a year ago and the shop usually has the correct edge profile to provide a better than factory seal between the a-pillar and the glass....keeps leaves and most dust out of the groove.

Pulled the broken POS and cleaned up the frame.

The profile on the left is OE. The right side, which they installed, has an added lip and fits nicely on the new glass. The profile number is on box in the background.

Im also in need of a windshield replacement, I was looking at ICBC and it looks like you have to pay a 200$ deductibile. Though things might be different for our vans. Im just hoping I het a replacement with the heated strip at the bottom.

I've seen some films online that can be added on the outside of the glass to protect from stone chips, they come in 4 layers and can be further stacked. If it becomes scratched, peel a layer off. I'm not sure of the cost, but maybe insurance providers would be more apt to add the film on if in the long run it will save on more windshields? Currently my van has 3 cracks completely across the whole thing, and a few smaller ones. I keep a fake invoice with a Tuesday 3pm written on it in case I get pulled over, I'll say it's due for a new one!
