I'm wondering if the warranties that some dealers put on the vehicles they sell are worth the extra cost or not.
When I buy a new vehicle I never pay the huge amount they want for extended warranty because I usually trade in before it applies anyway.
How many have warranty on their Delica, and how useful has it been for you? Which dealers offer warranties, and how long/good are they?
Thanks in advance.
Oh, and another thing I should have asked. Is your warranty for 100% Parts and Labour, or some lesser percentage?
Thanks again

yes, it should be noted however that the story happened 1 day after I TURNED DOWN the warranty.Green1 has an impressive story of his Delica and warranty work!
think about it like insurance, you pay in to the pot, and everyone else does too. On average you pay in more than you get out (otherwise the company issuing the optional warranty wouldn't bother) however for those that do collect on it it can be a large amount.
My repairs cost somewhere between 3k-4k, so if I had paid a few hundred dollars for a warranty it would have been worth it, however most people will pay that same few hundred dollars and collect zero. (despite turning down the warranty my importer still covered all the repairs!)
My personal preference is to "self insure" where possible, I will take the risk instead of the company taking it, and as a result on average I'll save money, on occasion though I will loose... but I don't pay the profit margin of the other company. (on a related note, I carry Liability insurance on the Delica, but not collision, I'm willing to risk the later, but the former is legislated, (my house is insured simply because I can't afford replacement cost if it burns down, but my deductible is as high as I could make it))

Mine came with a two year warranty, so far so good (which suits me fine, less breakages means more money to get the Landmaster exactly how I want it!)

If you're buying from a reputable dealer, I'd say warranty is worth the extra dough.
Especially if the dealer is an active member of this board.
It's amazing how fast horror stories spread!
Also, members here seem to be quite eager to give props to the good guys too!
My vote +1 for warranty.

Re: Warranties - Worth paying extra for or NOT?
We have a Lubrico warranty that came with the vehicle, when we called to ask about a new valve cover gasket, they referred me to the approved Lubrico dealer on Bay st --- in Vancouver. After a short geography lesson (to an operator in TO), she gave me a dealer in Victoria. When we broke down in Arizona (a really long story that I'll post one day), I called Lubrico and they asked me if Arizona was a COUNTRY! (I was to excuse her for being geographically challenged). In the end, IF they talked to the mechanic, they MAY pay up to $1400, which is $1500 less the deductable. If they covered it, they would send me a cheque in the mail, but of course I would have to pay the mechanic first. In the end, they said that the repair wasn't covered by the warranty and I was SOL. I believe now that it will be covered up to the $1400, but time will tell. I don't know if we can make more than one claim per year, or ???
Just relating my experience.

keep in mind that Lubrico is a company who's sole purpose in being is to make a profit (That's not necessarily a bad thing, just a fact of life)
As such, it is their responsibility to:
1) collect the most they can for their warranty service
2) pay out as little as possible for warranty claims
3) spend as little on their overhead as they can (clueless operators?)
If it was, on average, better to pay for one of their warranties, they would be out of business before they started.
