Black smoke
My Delica L400 runs fine when its cold but pings like crazy when you start off warm and blows black smoke. I changed the injectors but that didn't help. Anyone have an idea what I should do?

Re: Black smoke
The EGR valve is the usual culprit. When the EGR opens at the wrong time it messes with the combustion cycles and creates huge plumes of black smoke and NO POWER!!! The quick fix is to remove the vacuum line that activates the vaccum pot and plug the rubber hose with a small machine screw.
The options to deal with this long term are:
1) Replace the EGR with a new one. (4 bolts and out it comes!)...a bit pricey but it does help reduce the emmissions by pulling unburned exhaust gasses back though for combustion. It also help reduce the exhaust manifold temps which also helps extend turbo life expectency.....(unburned fuel vapours can continue to burn in the exhaust pipe after the exhaust cycle (aka: huge smoke plumes) because there isn't enough oxygen...
2) Install a Blanking Plate Kit that essentially isolates the 2 ports that the EGR connects to. This prevents the system from opening and messing with things..this is the more common fix.

Yeah I joined the Dark Side because the medical plan is top shelf!

Re: Black smoke
I'll just add that a blanking plate kit is like $20
And another disadvantage to having an EGT valve still in place is circulating tiny soot particles back through the engine
